As many struggle to take down bosses in Elden Ring’s DLC, one streamer has shown it’s possible with the right mindset.
FromSoftware games might be known for their high difficulty but it hasn’t stopped streamers from tackling them in creative ways, whether through banana controllers or dance pads.
Among those is British streamer Perrikaryal, who caught people’s attention last year when she began streaming Elden Ring using a electroencephalogram (EEG) headset connected to her PC, which allowed her to control everything using her mind and head movements.
Following the launch of Elden Ring’s Shadow Of The Erdtree expansion, Perrikaryal has now managed to defeat two of the DLC’s early bosses, including Divine Beast Dancing Lion, using the technology.
‘Shadow Of The Erdtree, first boss, COMPLETED with mind control, and ZERO HANDS,’ she wrote on Twitter. ‘I can’t believe it. This was the hardest thing ever. We’ve come SO FAR!’
On June 23, she successfully took down another boss, Renalla, using the same headset – so it might only be a matter of time before she completes the whole expansion.
As detailed in a video earlier this year, Perrikaryal has recorded and mapped certain brain waves to various in-game inputs, allowing her to cast spells or attack using her mind. As for the character’s movements, she uses an eye-tracker to make it all happen.
While anyone can buy EEG headsets to capture brain data, Perrikaryal’s journey in making the technology work with video games has taken over a year to develop. To make it function, she has had to map certain brain waves to actions in-game, like the thought of spinning plates to attack, or thinking of something heavy to dodge, which translates into the game.
She has also played other games using the tech, including Palworld, Halo, Rocket League, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Pac-Man.
Perrikaryal’s success in Elden Ring’s DLC is particularly noteworthy though considering many people are currently wrestling with its difficulty, even to the point where it’s impacting user reviews.
