WWE legend Sika Anoa’i has died aged 79, according to his family.

The Hall of Famer, whose son is current WWE superstar Roman Reigns, was part of the Wild Samoans tag team alongside his real life brother Afa Anoa’i.

His nephew Jahrus wrote on Instagram: ‘It is with profound sadness that I share the news of the passing of Former Hall of Famer, Polaivao Leati Sika Anoa’i. He passed away peacefully on June 25th.

‘Sika was a celebrated figure whose contributions and legacy have left an indelible mark. His memory will live on through his achievements and the many lives he touched.’

Jahrus described the wrestling icon as ‘many things’, paying tribute to his work ethic and family roles, adding that his ‘warm and kindness knew no bounds’.

He continued: ‘He was many things: a hard working father, a caring brother, a supportive uncle, and a proud grandfather.

The three-time WWE Tag Team Champion started his career in 1973 as he wrestled across the territories before making the jump to WWE seven years later.

He last appeared for the company in 1988, and the Wild Samoans were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007.

Sika and Afa both made a triumphant return to WWE in 2020, when they came out to acknowledge Roman as the Tribal Chief at that year’s Hell In A Cell premium live event.
