BBC Radio presenter, Nihal Arthanayake was involved in a motorway crash on the M60 that involved his wife and child.

Nihal, 53, shared an image of his car on X, that showed the impact on the back of the car which was hit by a lorry.

‘Two hours ago a lorry hit a car which hit me on the M60,’ he revealed in the post shared on June 25.

‘I clung onto that steering wheel for dear life to try and keep the car steady and not hit the central reservation.

‘Wife next to me and son in the back. Terrifying.’

The radio personality, best known for his self named BBC Radio 5 Live afternoon show, confirmed there were no fatalities: ‘Everyone walked away from the crash,’ he replied to a commenter on X.

Taking to Instagram to share the full story, the radio presenter explained that he thought he may have been in ‘shock’ after this scary ordeal, and that the driver of the car involved in the incident was ‘lucky to be alive’.

‘Well, this just happened. As I passed the lorry in the middle lane unbeknownst to me that same lorry had hit a car in front of it which came sliding sideways across the middle lane and hit me on the back passenger door and ripped off a side of the car over the back wheel.

‘I struggled to take control trying to prevent my car spinning out of control and hitting the central reservation. As I held on to the steering wheel for dear life trying to steady my car all I could think about was my wife sitting next to me and my son in the back of the car and making sure my car did not spin out of control.

‘The driver of the car that hit me is lucky to be alive. As I think we all are too.’

He then added that he’d never been in a crash before and believed he was taking to social media to share his story to ‘process’ what had happened.

‘Not sure why I am telling you all this from the side of the M60. My wife is talking to the police. I have never been involved in a car crash before. No serious harm done as far as we can tell. Most likely in shock. Perhaps that’s why I am posting this, as a way of processing it myself. F**k.’

The radio presenter was supported by celebrities who wished him well after sharing this ordeal.

‘My goodness Nihal. Thank goodness you’re all okay xx’ said broadcaster and Loose Women panellist Charlene White.

Former BBC presenter and Strictly Come Dancing star, Dan Walker also commented on the post: ‘Glad everyone is ok x’

Labour candidate Dawn Butler also commented on X: ‘Hope you’re all OK. Take care.’

On June 26 he gave followers on Twitter an update: ‘Thank you so much for all your kind messages. Mrs A has a sore neck and back.

‘I am physically ok but not sure about my mind. Woke up before 6am this morning with a different version of the car crash we were involved in yesterday.’

Last month it was announced Nihal is set to leave his afternoon slot at BBC Radio 5 Live and front a Sunday evening show and an extended Headliners podcast for the station.

The broadcaster said at the time: ‘I’m incredibly excited to have been given my own space on BBC Radio 5 Live to purely do what I love most about broadcasting, in-depth interviews with fascinating people.

‘I want to create something distinct and unique for a new audience on Sunday evenings as well as my podcast. I want both to become a time for my listeners to be inspired and celebrate creativity and culture in all its forms.’
