Shia LaBeouf has called FKA twigs’ request for $10,000,000 in damages ‘financially ruinous’ amid ongoing abuse and sexual battery lawsuit.

British singer FKA twigs, real name Tahliah Debrett Barnett, filed the lawsuit against her ex-boyfriend citing ‘relentless abuse’ in December 2020.

The pair dated for just under a year after meeting on the set of 2019 film Honey Boy. In the lawsuit the Cellophane artist accused the Hollywood star of sexual battery, assault, and infliction of emotional distress.

Twigs, 36, claimed the Transformers star had slammed her into a car, tried to strangle her and knowingly gave her a sexually transmitted disease.

LaBeouf, 38, and his legal representation has denied ‘each and every allegation’.

In new court filings from LaBeouf obtained by In Touch magazine, it has been revealed the pair are currently at an impasse after Twigs claimed she ‘has suffered $10 million [£7.9million] in damages, including lost wages, lost professional opportunities and emotional distress.’

His lawyer continued: ‘In particular, [FKA] alleges that the release of her album was delayed due to mental anguish, and as a result she lost over $1 million not finishing her album prior to touring.

‘She has not provided support for this alleged delay, the reasons behind it, or that she would have earned an extra $1 million for the album’s earlier release.’

The music artist – who collaborated with Two Shells with new single Talk To Me earlier this year – also cited $4,100 in therapist bills.

LaBeouf’s lawyer argued, however, that her ‘career appears to be thriving’ as she remains ‘professionally active’.

He pointed to her regular music releases such as her 2022 mixtape Caprisongs, her role in upcoming film The Crow and appearances in magazines such as Elle and British Vogue.

LaBeouf also claimed that Twigs has refused to hand over financial and medical records requested by his team. But Twigs said she has already submitted to a psychotherapy exam and turned over 1,300 pages of requested documents to the actor.

‘[FKA’s] work schedule, contracts, and economic success are in direct conflict with someone supposedly traumatized by Shia’s alleged actions.

‘[Twigs] cannot place her financial condition in issue and further make claims about her emotional distress and then withhold the information that Shia requires to challenge it,’ LaBeouf’s lawyer continued.

He added the cost would be ‘financially ruinous’ for him.

On the flip side, Twigs has accused LaBeouf of not turning over all the text messages sent to third parties about her that are in his possession. He claims he has.

Twigs’ lawyer Bryan Freedman argued: ‘While my client was led to believe that LaBeouf was on a path of taking responsibility and working a program, it is clear he intends his pattern of continuing to abuse the victim.

‘Any suggestion that FKA Twigs’ emotional distress should be discounted because of any career success is preposterous and discounts the idea that victims should have hope for the future.

‘Logically, without the trauma that she has suffered I can only imagine the level of success she would have achieved by now.’

A judge has yet to rule on the case with the trial pushed back from April to this October.

In a recent interview with British Vogue spoke about the impact of the relationship.

‘The fact is being abused changes the whole of your nervous system,’ she told the publication.

The Grammy nominee added that her ‘window of tolerance is now much smaller than it used to be, my body manifests stress in quite extreme ways – it really shows me when it’s upset.’

And speaking to the New York Times shortly after the allegations first came to light, LaBeouf said he has ‘no excuses for my alcoholism or aggression, only rationalizations.’

He continued: ‘I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years.

‘I have a history of hurting the people closest to me. I’m ashamed of that history and am sorry to those I hurt. There is nothing else I can really say.’

The A-List actor recently starred in Francis Ford Coppola’s sci-fi epic Megalopolis which premiered at Cannes Film Festival to mixed reviews.

Meanwhile, FKA Twigs will appear opposite Bill Skarsgard upcoming thriller, The Crow, set to release later this year.
