The supermarket caused a frenzy back in April with their cream ric rac dress hailed as “perfect”.

One determined fashionista even admitted to driving an hour to track it down as it was sold out in her local store and online.

But she added: “Man is she worth it. The shape, the length, the ric rac – it’s perfect and a complete bargain.”

And now, Asda bosses have given shoppers a summer treat by releasing the viral frock in a new colour – with fashion fans insisting it’s better than the original.

The Black Ric Rac Woven Tiered Boho Midi Dress boasts a tie neck and white detailing, costs just £26 and comes in sizes 8-24.

The best part? It’s 100% cotton so will be perfect for the warmer weather.

The stylish flowy sleeves will also help to keep you even cooler.

Midsize mum Claire picked up the dress in a size 14 this week after spotting it online.

She said: “[This] ric rac dress is the same as the cream version that went viral and sold [out] a month or so ago.

“I actually love the black and white version even more.

“I went down a size for a more fitted look around the bust.”

And other shoppers are in full agreement, as one echoed: “I think I love it even more than the original one. I’m obsessed.”

Someone else gushed: “That dress, Asda knocking it out the park!”

A third wrote: “That dress, wow wow wow.”

“Just ordered the dress too, been out of stock for ages in my size”, chimed in a fourth.

A fifth cried: “When I say I ran to buy that first dress.”

Meanwhile, a sixth revealed: “Just ordered the black and white dress, it’s so nice!”

If this has inspired you to pop into your nearest Asda, there’s another frock you might want to look out for.

Shopper Catrina hailed a £35 white maxi dress from the Asda Studio Edit as “absolutely amazing”.

She added: “I love it so much. I actually can’t believe this is from Asda. It’s such good quality!

“You know the drill. You need to run, not walk to Asda because this is going to go quick.”

Is supermarket fashion the new high street?

DEPUTY Fashion Editor Abby McHale weighs in:

The supermarkets have really upped their game when it comes to their fashion lines. These days, as you head in to do your weekly food shop you can also pick up a selection of purse-friendly, stylish pieces for all the family.
Tesco has just announced a 0.7 per cent increase in the quarter thanks to a ‘strong growth in clothing’ and M&S has earnt the title of the number one destination for womenswear on the high street.
Asda’s clothing line George has made £1.5 million for the supermarket in 2023, 80 per cent of Sainsbury’s clothes sold at full price rather than discounted and Nutmeg at Morrisons sales are also up 2 per cent in the past year.
So what is it about supermarket fashion that is becoming so successful?
Apart from the clothing actually being affordable, it’s good quality too – with many being part of schemes such as the Better Cotton Initiative.
A lot of the time they keep to classic pieces that they know will last the customer year after year.
Plus because they buy so much stock they can turn around pieces quickly and buy for cheaper because of the volumes.
