Shockwaves rippled through the TV industry when it was announced last month one of its former golden couples Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes were divorcing.

The broadcasters, both 64, met in the late 90s through mutual friend Sally Meen and tied the knot in 2010. During their 14-year marriage, they welcomed son Jack, 22, together.

But after more than 20 years together, it was said that work commitments had caused the former This Morning presenters – who have barely addressed the split – to drift in ‘different directions’.

Since their shock announcement, there have been various developments, including claims Ruth became upset after discovering messages between Eamonn and his new female friend, while Eamonn said he was ‘not ok’ at an awards ceremony.

Despite an insider stating they were determined to ‘keep things amicable’, in the latest update of their divorce a source claimed friends were concerned the split was going to turn ‘nasty.’

Here is the timeline of Eamonn and Ruth’s split.

In a statement, Ruth and Eamonn announced their break-up after 14 years of marriage.

It read: ‘Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing.’

Hours after their shock split was announced, Ruth posted on Instagram but did not address their divorce.

She shared videos of her dog Maggie on a walk and ‘enjoying the little bit of sunshine we got today’.

It was claimed that the split was ‘very much orchestrated by Ruth’ and the statement was going public was arranged by the Loose Women star.

The Mail alleged Eamonn ‘refused to get involved’ because ‘Ruth can do what she wants, but keep me out of it’.

Eamonn spoke about his divorce for the first time on his GB News show, supported by co-host Isabel Webster.

He said: ‘I’d just like to thank people for your support for Ruth and I over the last few days as to the news of our separation.

‘Your support for both of us is very much appreciated.’

On social media, Ruth posted a selfie in a lift showing her wedding ring in full view.

The mysterious caption read: ‘Yes…it has to be done!’

A source told The Sun: ‘Eamonn and Ruth are still in contact, they speak every day.

Although they’ve separated, they’re still sharing their dog, Maggie, at the moment and of course they have their son, Jack.’

It was claimed Ruth wasn’t best pleased that Eamonn had ‘grown close’ to a new female friend.

A source said he had treated relationships counsellor Katie Alexander to gifts including a Beyonce ticket.

She is not said to be a reason for the marriage breakdown.

Ruth showed off a hair transformation days after announcing her split from Eamonn.

The TV presenter treated herself to a pamper day at the salon where she refreshed her look with more layers.

Ruth decided to extend her leave from Loose Women amid her divorce from Eamonn.

A spokesperson for the TV presenter said: ‘Ruth had holiday time booked from Loose Women and has extended her leave.

‘She’s looking forward to returning to the show in due course.’

Ruth was said to have been left extremely upset by the discovery of messages sent between her spouse and another woman, understood to be Katie, on his laptop.

‘Ruth was completely taken by surprise when she saw the messages,’ a source told The Sun.

‘She had no idea what had been going on between them. She was devastated. Not only was she very upset but she was also angry.’

Katie is not said to be the reason behind the break-up.

Sources close to Katie claimed she had fallen ‘in love’ with Eamonn after a ‘string of outings’ together.

The divorcee and mother-of-three was also said to be ‘in it for the long haul.’

Eamonn spoke further about the chronic back pain he has suffered since 2021 at the Tric Awards.

He revealed he was on ‘borrowed time’ and required a high-tech wheelchair and walker that helped him to attend the ceremony.

Ruth was said to be dealing with ‘agonising guilt’ the day after Eamonn opened up further about his health woes.

‘Even though she has every right to live her life and do what is right for her – she’s convinced the public will see her as abandoning Eamonn in his time of need as he struggles with his health,’ an insider reportedly told Bella magazine, as reported by The Express.

A source claimed to the Mail that ‘friends are now worried’ that the split was ‘going to get very nasty.’

Metro.co.uk has contacted Eamonn and Ruth’s reps for comment.
