Known professionally as Lady Miss Kier Kirby, she was part of the 90s band Deee-lite, and one of the voices behind the hit song Groove is in the Heart.

Lady Miss Kier – real name Kierin Magenta Kirby, 60 – hasn’t been in the spotlight since the group disbanded in the years following their one-hit wonder, but recent pictures of the star show that she has retained her signature look.

And groove is still in everyone’s hearts, if the comments on her Instagram page are anything to go by.

Although she hasn’t posted in over ten years, she still has fans swarming to her account to check in.

Indeed, a post dated February 2014 shows the star looking as she did in the 90s – wrapped up in a leopard print coat while wearing ruby red lipstick and with her distinctive red haircut into a short bob.

‘Lady Miss Kier Winter Wonderland 2014,’ reads the caption accompanying the ten-year-old post.

As vocalist in the band Deee-lite, Lady Miss Kier shot to fame with the song Groove is in the Heart, taken from their 1990 debut album World Clique.

The song reached number two on the UK Official Singles Chart, while shooting to number one on the US Dance Club Chartand heading up various other charts around the world.

The band had formed in 1986, with Lady Miss Kier on vocals and songwriting, alongside bandmates Dmitry Brill and Towa Tei.

In 1992, the band released their second album, Infinity Within. Like their third album, 1994’s Dewdops in the Garden, it failed to live up to the success of their debut.

The group disbanded not long afterwards, due to disagreements between Lady Miss Kier and Dmitry Brill. The group released a greatest hits album in 2001.

Outside of Deee-lite, Lady Miss was also a fashion icon during her time – making the cover of Vogue Italia in 1990, and being named a style icon by Elle, Glamour, Rookie and Rookie.

Her distinctive fashion sense led her to sue the video game company Sega for allegedly employing an unauthorised use of her likeness in the game Space Channel 5.

However, the courts fell on Sega’s side – and she was forced to pay $608,000 (£480,000) in legal fees to the studio after the judge determined the likeness wasn’t close enough to be deemed illegal.

After splitting from the band, she toured London as a disc jockey and music producer, and has played at festivals such as Coachella in 2010, and Sydney Mardi Gras in 2012.

In 2005, she exercised her political activism to perform live, covering the anti-war song Bullet Proof in protest of the invasion of Iraq.

Although she seems to have stepped back from the limelight, fans continue to check in with her via Instagram.

‘I really think this is the perfect time for a Lady Kier comeback,’ wrote the user jaclyn.desantis under a ‘recent’ post.

‘Aaaaw Lady Miss Kier where are you?? I miss your presence. Man, what a life you’ve lived. Where you are I am wishing you to be enveloped in the most peace and comfort and loving joy you’ve ever felt deep within your soul. House music vibes and dancing will forever be grateful for your presence in it,’ said pachalaura.
