I’m a hat expert – how yours can make you look younger, and the best style to hide those pesky roots
A HAT maker has revealed how wearing a headpiece can make you look younger, and the best type to wear to hide your roots.
Sanya Torkmorad-Jozavi is the founder of Jovazi, a bespoke hat-making service which creates headpieces that are unique to you and your lifestyle.

Speaking to the Express, she revealed why she believes a hat is the perfect addition to any outfit.
She said: “It’s the perfect canvas to frame the face.
“The hat creates a story and memory at a special occasion.”
She added that it can also make you look younger, as wearing it at an angle creates “light and shadow” which gives the illusion of a more slim looking face.
The hat maker added that the ideal hat for covering up greying roots is a wide-brimmed beret.
She said: “It’s a great way of masking those roots you’ve not had time to dye.”
Moreover, for those wanting to look taller and slimmer, she suggested wearing a tall hat.
She said: “A hat with height will lengthen your whole self and have you walking tall; the way a hat makes you stand taller lifts your neck up.”
Sanya revealed that veils on hats are also a great tool for making you look younger as they “blur” any wrinkles.
The designer recently wore her latest creation to the Royal Ascot and shared the process behind the yellow butterfly headpiece.
She said: “The yellows of my dress and butterfly earrings were the starting point”.
Sanya revealed that when creating a hat for somebody, she asks them what they will be wearing at the event and how they plan on styling their hair.
She said that she loves how hats change the way people stand, as they force people to tilt their heads up with pride.
“Creating hats feels like a full-body sensory experience; it’s so tactile and sculptural”, she said.
Why Fabulous’ Fuller Bust Collection is good for your wardrobe – and the planet
Abby McHale, Fabulous’ Deputy Fashion Editor, commented: “From the outset, sustainability was important to us.
“Considering that 30 percent of products globally are destined for landfill before they’ve even left a warehouse, we’ve decided to only start making our clothes once orders have been placed.
“This means your order will take a little longer than what you’re used to (four to six weeks), but we’re hoping you think, like we do, it’s worth the wait.
“We also ensure factory workers are paid bonuses from the collection, plus we work with the charity, Pratham, in India to fund education centres for kids in migrant areas.
“Buying a dress can support a child’s education for two months.”
“And trying on hats in between feels like playing dress up – there’s such an element of play meets craft.”
Hat making, or millinery is a highly skilled craft that requires attention to detail and a steady hand.
Sanya described it as “beautiful”, revealing that the artistic craftsmanship is what drew her to the profession.
