The Chase star Paul Sinha has revealed one surprising biproduct of his recent weight loss – he wound up costing ITV a lot of money.

The chaser, known as ‘the Sinnerman’ on the show, has been open about his health journey since being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 2017 and Parkinson’s in 2019.

Following his diagnosis, Paul took part in the ITV documentary Diabetes: The Fast Fix, during which he reduced his calorie intake to no more than 800 a day.

As a part of his participation in the show, Paul lost two stone, putting his condition into remission.

However, his sudden weight loss had an unintended side effect – and one which proved to be costly for The Chase.

‘I lost plenty of weight, costing The Chase dozens of pounds in replacement suits.

‘Far more importantly, I successfully put my diabetes in remission,’ he wrote in his book, Once Sinha Lifetime: Comedy, Disaster and One Man’s Quest for Happiness, according to The Mirror.

Two years after his diabetes diagnosis, Paul revealed that he also suffers from Parkinson’s.

The disease causes involuntary shaking, stiff muscles and slower, more sluggish movement than usual – all of which could prove problematic for a quick-thinker like the Sinnerman.

Speaking in 2019, the star released a statement, saying: ‘I will fight this with every breath.’

Since then, he has continued to star in The Chase, and has no plans to step down anytime soon.

‘It’s a good way of measuring its progression because my results haven’t got worse since I got Parkinson’s. It’s a good way of measuring my brain’s ability and function,’ he previously revealed to The Daily Star.

‘I’ve always said that if I felt that the ability was going down, I’d call it myself and I still stand by that. But it’s definitely not going down so that’s fine.’

In the months following his Parkinson’s diagnosis, Paul married partner Oliver Levy – tying the knot in December 2019.

Appearing on Loose Women last week, Paul revealed how he had been outed to his mother by a mystery friend, robbing him of the agency of doing so himself.

‘It was an interesting process coming out to my mum,’ he said. ‘Somebody at a house party that we were hosting had a few too many drinks, rang up my home number and went “your son’s gay!” and put the phone down,’ he said.

‘Which was not how I wanted her to find out. I thought it’d be a more organic and sweet process and it was difficult to have the agency of the decision taken away from me,’ he continued.

‘I still don’t know who which one of my friends it was. So we’re going to have a poll, give you the list of all my friends that it could have been.

‘I won’t say the bookies’ odds, because then Rishi Sunak’s team will put a side bet on it,’ he joked.
