In a shake-up to BBC schedules, The One Show won’t be airing as usual this week.

The hit lifestyle programme usually airs on weekdays at 7pm on BBC One. It is currently co-hosted by Alex Jones, Jermaine Jenas, Roman Kemp and Lauren Laverne.

However, in a change to usual programming, it has been taken off air to make way for this week’s Wimbledon 2024 coverage.

While the show has been moved to BBC2 in the past to accommodate sporting events or political debates, the decision has been made to remove it from schedules entirely.

Host Alex announced the change last week, revealing that the show would be taking a break and returning on July 8 instead.

This is the latest schedule change amid a busy week which includes Wimbledon coverage, the ongoing Euros and the UK General Election on Thursday (July 4)

Soap favourite EastEnders has also been subject to major changes, being broadcast in two double bills on Wednesday and Thursday instead of its usual four-day week schedule.

Walford fans can still get their fix throughout the chaos, as episodes of the soap will drop as usual every morning on iPlayer.

Meanwhile, Bargain Hunt and Escape to the Country will also be skipped in favour of Wimbledon coverage and the general election.

During last week’s episodes, The One Show team were joined by Bridget Jones star Celia Imrie, 71, and actress and journalist Stacey Dooley, 37.

During a chaotic turn of events, Stacey was rushed off the set mid-show to take part in the West End show 2:22 A Ghost Story, which she stars in.

‘We can’t actually keep you long. In fact, I’m being told right now you’re on stage in about 40 minutes and your bike – you’ve got a motorbike,’ Roman explained before a motorcycle helmet was brought on for her.

‘How showbiz!’, Stacey joked as she made a hasty exit.

National treasure Celia, meanwhile, spoke of how she didn’t think the original Bridget Jones film could ever get made.

The actress, who plays Una Alconbury in the film and its sequels, said: ‘I was really embarrassed to say that I was at a read-through for a film, and it was about somebody who wanted to give up smoking, and they thought they were having too much white wine and they wanted a boyfriend and they wrote a diary…

‘And I thought it was never going to get made,’ she shared.

The One Show returns to BBC One and BBC iPlayer on July 8.
