BBC presenter Gabby Logan has detailed the ‘mini-crisis’ she suffered before learning she was perimenopausal.

The 51-year-old recalled having an ‘absolute meltdown’ over ‘something small’ in 2020 during which she threatened to move out of the family home.

Gabby said she told her husband Kenny Logan, 52, and their two children twins, Reuben and Lois, 18, she was going buy a flat in Beaconsfield in a ‘totally random’ moment.

The former rhythmic gymnast was later prescribed hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and has written a book called The Midpoint Plan to help women and men prepare for middle age.

Gabby recalled her ‘lowest point’ during an interview with The Sunday Times Magazine, and said: ‘It was over something small, like the kids not clearing up after breakfast.

‘I had this absolute meltdown, sat everybody down and launched into this off-the-cuff “I’m going to get myself a flat in Beaconsfield and move out and let you all just get on with it”. It was totally random.’

‘That was probably my lowest point, my mini-crisis.’

Gabby said she learned she was perimenopausal aged 47 and was prescribed HRT to ease her symptoms.

According to the NHS, the perimenopause is when you have symptoms of menopause but your periods have not stopped. Perimenopause ends and you reach menopause when you have not had a period for 12 months.

Menopause and perimenopause can cause symptoms like anxiety, mood swings, brain fog, hot flushes, and irregular periods.

The main medicine treatment for menopause and perimenopause symptoms is HRT which replaces the hormones that are at low levels.

Gabby previously spoke about feeling extreme pain while on a flight – nearly causing an emergency plane landing.

She revealed she was unable to lift her chest up or ‘unravel [her] body’, and the plane had to be lowered to 10,000 feet.

It turned out though, Gabby just had some trapped gas, but she had no idea at the time and caused a bit of panic on the plane.

Meanwhile, in 2022, Kenny revealed that he had been diagnosed with cancer and had undergone surgery to remove his prostate, after Gabby had urged him to get it checked.

Speaking on BBC Breakfast with Gabby by his side, he said he was feeling ‘90% back to normal’ after the surgery, adding he felt ‘extremely lucky.’

He was given the all-clear the following year
