Josh Hartnett has unpacked one of his steamiest film roles, confessing that it was actually ‘super embarrassing’ behind the scenes.

The 46-year-old is set to get pulses racing with his stint in Trap, M Night Shyamalan’s latest psychological thriller focusing on a serial killer attending a concert with his daughter.

In a new interview, the Hollywood icon opened up about making everyone’s heart rate rise in a different way as he shed light on shooting a sex scene with Kate Beckinsale for Pearl Harbour.

During an interview with Elle Magazine, the Oppenheimer actor was asked for his most embarrassing moment on set, and was quick to respond: ‘Oh God, I’ve had so many.

‘One of my most embarrassing is the parachute scene from Pearl Harbor with Kate Beckinsale where we are making love in the parachutes for some reason?” He recalled.

‘She decided to bring her young one-year-old daughter and her boyfriend to set for the first time that day.

‘I felt terrible the whole day. That was super embarrassing. Thanks, Kate!’

Josh didn’t name Kate’s boyfriend but she was said to be dating fellow actor Michael Sheen at the time the flick was released in 2001 – the former couple welcomed daughter Lily together in 1999.

The pair starred in the action flick alongside Ben Affleck, Cuba Gooding Jr, Alec Baldwin and Jon Voight.

The movie, directed by Michael Bay, followed a fictionalized version of the attack on Pearl Harbour in the 1940s, and the love triangle between combat pilot Danny (Josh) and his childhood best friend (Rafe), after they both fell for nurse Evelyn (Kate).

Despite receiving mixed reviews, the blockbuster shot the actor to superstardom – before he turned his back on Hollywood to enjoy living a quieter life with his wife, Tamsin Egerton, and their children.

In a chat for Metro.co.uk’s Guilty Pleasures section in 2021, he lifted the lid on being offered the role of Superman and why he decided to shun the spotlight instead.

‘The guys who are on top are terrified that someone’s coming up behind them,’ he said. ‘If that’s your real ambition, to be on top all the time, you’re going to spend your whole life looking over your shoulder.

‘I never wanted that. I want to do good work with people I like and spend my free time with people I care about.’

‘At the time, it was so obvious to me to turn it down. I was being offered movies by the very top directors. And Superman was a risk. Yes, there was a lot of money involved but I didn’t think that was the be-all and end-all,’ he continued.

‘I decided to have a life. To put that first. That was always my goal.

‘I feel very strongly about friends I’ve known for a long time and my family. I wanted to make sure I wasn’t losing those relationships. Those people make me who I am. I put those concerns ahead of chasing a Hollywood dream.

‘The thing I am most proud of is that I’m a father-of-three. I’m still able to do good work and, as I’ve got older, the characters have become more interesting.’
