Viewers are urging others to binge ‘the best new comedy in years’ on the BBC which is largely going under the radar.
Written and starring Michelle de Swarte, Spent follows former catwalk model Mia whose career implodes and she’s reluctantly forced to move back to Brixton after being declared bankrupt.
Too proud to tell her family and friends though, Mia sneakily takes weird jobs and sleeps on sofas while pretending she’s still got her glamorous life under control.
The six-episode comedy also stars Peep Show hero Matt King – aka Super Hans – Back To Life’s Juliet Cowan and Am I Being Unreasonable? star Amanda Wilkin.
The verdict from fans is that Spent is a resounding success and we can confirm the six episodes should be on everyone’s list.
Lisa Holdworth is among those who couldn’t get enough of Spent.

On X, she wrote: ‘If you’re looking for your next binge watch, you could do a lot worse than Spent on the iPlayer.
‘Funny, heartbreaking and has an amazingly magnetic central character. Also proof that some of the best drama comes through the BBC comedy department.’
John Chadfield agreed: ‘Spent on BBC is the best new comedy in years. 6 episodes of original gold, hope it comes back for another season.’

Author and writer Caitlin Moran went as far as posting: ‘There hasn’t been a bigger entrance onto TV for a writer/performer since Phoebe Waller-Bridge in Fleabag. Michelle de Swarte is both a powerhouse and a hoot in “Spent.” HUGE recommend.’
Spent is loosely based on Michelle’s career in the fashion industry, which came crashing down after she fell over on stage for the Gucci Fall/Winter 2002 Ready-To-Wear fashion show which she says is ‘still one of the funniest things I’ve ever done’.
Michelle also found herself homeless but was sofa surfing in LA for a few years rather than Brixton until she poured her experience into a stand-up comedy routine.
Finally, she now has her own show and it is great.
Spent is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
