Kate Garraway says she’s ‘been all over the place’ after dad’s hospitalisation in Good Morning Britain return-Josie Copson-Entertainment – Metro

Kate Garraway has returned to Good Morning Britain after three weeks away, and given an insight into her recent headspace.

The TV presenter was sitting back in her chair alongside Ed Balls for today’s episode of the ITV daytime show following her decision to take time off to be with her family.

She dropped out of the show last month after her dad was rushed to hospital following a suspected stroke and heart attack, and was instead replaced by Ranvir Singh, 39.

In her first episode on air again, she referenced being ‘all over the place’ following the incidents in her personal life, but chose to remain upbeat while discussing the circumstances.

‘Shall we have a look at the weather? I’ve been all over the place recently with things with my dad and a little bit of summer fun with my son as well,’ she told meteorologist Laura Tobin.

The 57-year-old continued: ‘But apparently it’s been gorgeous here Laura. I’ve missed the good stuff.’

Laura responded to inform Kate she was also away from her post on the show while the UK experienced the summer weather.

‘I was on leave for one week, and it was hot, dry and sunny,’ she joked leading to laughter from Kate.

‘Hi all – sorry I disappeared from here when my Dad collapsed & rushed to hospital 2 weeks ago while having a holiday with my Mum at my brother’s,’ she wrote on Instagram.

‘It was very scary but am so pleased that he is now stable & even recovering a bit in hospital – we have so much to be grateful for, but are taking it a day at a time.

‘Huge thanks to the incredible NHS staff for their endless kindness & the heart ♥️ they put into the care of all their patients which has meant so much to my mum & all our family.’

Kate went on to thank her colleagues for stepping in so she could take all the time she needed.

‘Huge thanks too to my incredible friends @itv & @smoothradio particularly @ranvirtv @charlottehawkins1 @tinahobleyofficial @myleeneklass for yet again changing their plans to cover for me so I could put my family first,’ the post continued.

‘Luckily I also had some weeks leave booked so I have been able to support my Mum & Brother & be with my Dad while also giving Darcey & Billy some summer fun on their school holidays which of course they really need.

‘Am hoping to be back on @gmb & @smoothradio on Monday so can update more then but for now sending love to you all.’

Her dad’s health scare came a few weeks after Kate said she was ‘barely holding it together’ following the death of her husband and father of her children Darcey, 18, and Billy, 14, Derek Draper, who died in January after a three-year battle with complications related to Covid-19.

During GMB, Kate got to speak with couple John and Nula, who met when both their spouses were in care, living with Dementia.

Kate described the pair as meeting in ‘the saddest of circumstances’ but added it ‘brought something positive’.

Speaking about her experience of being a carer, Kate said: ‘This is something that I have been through a little bit. Derek did not have dementia but there was a sense after COVID he was absolutely the same person, still loved him as much but there was a change.

‘And with dementia, this doesn’t happen overnight because it’s something very slowly and the person caring for them has to learn how to love that person that they still love in a different way.’

Elsewhere, in the episode, Labour MP for Coventry South, Zarah Sultana, was interviewed regarding the riots currently taking place in the UK, and viewers criticised the way the conversation was handled.
