Strictly Come Dancing announcements are coming at us with the same speed as a jive – blink and you’ll miss three.

Vernon Kay today got the honour of unveiling a trio of names within thirty minutes on his BBC Radio 2 show.

The husband of Strictly host Tess Daly revealed that joining JLS singer JB Gill, and comedian Chris McCausland on the dance floor is opera singer (or the Go Compare advert man to many) Wynne Evans, TV doctor Punam Krishan, and 80s chart-topper Toyah Willcox.

The 66-year-old looked fantastic in the promotional picture posted to cement her induction into the Strictly 2024 cast.

Toyah may have a career that has spanned 40 years, but her youthful looks say differently.

Although now she’s traded in her bold hair colours, to a sleek blonde bob, the full fringe has remained the same.

Speaking about joining the line-up Toyah shared her excitement.

‘Wow Strictly Come Dancing, can you believe it! This is going to be a wild and wonderful ride, and I’m here for every sparkly second,’ she said.

‘I’m used to performing for big crowds but this is completely fresh for me, how I will do, it’s a mystery… I just want to get cracking and learn some dance routines now!’

Toyah first found fame in the 1970s fronting band Toyah (I wonder how they came up with that name?), before going solo.

She has a glistening track record, with hits including It’s A Mystery, Thunder in the Mountains, and I Want to Be Free.

She’s enjoyed eight top-40 singles, been a Brit award nominee four times, and has been a busy lady releasing over twenty albums throughout her career. The artist still tours the country for her fans and is a particular hit during festival season.

On top of music, Toyah is also an actor with theatre roles in Calamity Jane and The Rocky Horror Show, and TV appearances in Quatermass, Minder, and Secret Diary of a Call Girl.

In the 1990s her presenting career took off, and she had the unique honour of presenting both Songs of Praise on the BBC and Good Sex Guide Late on ITV.

Strictly won’t be her first reality show either – she’s been put through her paces on I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!, I’m Famous and Frightened! and Celebrity Mastermind to varying levels of success.

She has been married since 1986 to the founder and guitarist of rock group King Crimson, Robert Fripp, and the couple have no children.

The pair host a lively YouTube channel – cheeky, audacious, entertaining, and even eye-watering, each episode has attracted hundreds of thousands of views.
