Bloober Team has acknowledged the fan discontent over the Silent Hill 2 remake but insist they’re a ‘different team than three years ago.’

It’s fair to say that Konami’s revival of Silent Hill has not gone well so far, with initial games Silent Hill: Ascension and Silent Hill: The Short Message both reviewing poorly. The remake of Silent Hill 2 was meant to be the centrepiece of their plans but that’s had nothing but bad press ever since the developer was announced as Bloober Team.

Although Blooder Team made their name with horror games such as Layers Of Fear, Blair Witch, and The Medium none of them were very good. Fans have been particularly worried because The Medium is something of a homage to Silent Hill and yet the way it handles issues like sexual abuse and suicide are far less accomplished than the 23-year-old Silent Hill 2.

CEO Piotr Babieno has acknowledged the concerns in a new interview has insisted that, ‘I believe that Bloober today is a completely different team than three years ago.’ That’s clearly a reference to the release of The Medium, with Babieno adding: ‘Internally, we are calling this ‘Bloober Team 3.0.’

When Bloober Team first started work on Layers Of Fear, in 2016, they only had around 10 people but now they have over 250, which certainly should make a difference.

It’s not just Bloober Team’s previous work which concerns fans, but the so far underwhelming trailers, that show little of the subtlety of the original game. But it wouldn’t be the first time a good game had a bad trailer, so maybe that’s not entirely fair.

‘I am dreaming that gamers will trust us,’ Babieno told Rolling Stone. ‘But I realise that trust is earned through actions, not through words.

‘So that’s why we have a policy of not commenting [on the game] and raising hopes. We want to show our ambitions through our work, so we can’t ask for anything more than ‘give us a chance.’

Babieno also talks about how much he loves the original Silent Hill 2, insisting that it ‘changed my life.’

‘Despite technological progress, so many of us remember the town of Silent Hill as one of the most important points in our lives,’ he added.

The Silent Hill 2 remake will be released on October 8 for PlayStation 5 and PC. It’s not clear if it’s a permeant PlayStation console exclusive but no other versions have been announced so far.
