The clock is ticking for fans of one of Netflix’s original series as there are just a few days left to watch it before it disappears from the platform.

If The Alienist is on your to-do list then it’s probably best you get cracking, because as of August 9, it will be removed from the platform.

The thriller began in 2018 and follows a trio of investigators who try to get to the bottom of murders in 19th-century New York.

As they try to uncover the truth about crimes plaguing the city, the series weaves in themes of systemic corruption, inequality and female roles in society.

Bringing the story to life, which was originally a book of the same name, is an all-star cast of Daniel Bruhl (Laszlo Kreizler), Dakota Fanning (Sara Howard), and Luke Evans (John Moore).

In America, it aired on TNT, but Netflix exclusively owned the rights for international distribution allowing the rest of the world to watch it.

News of its departure has spread fast, with fans encouraging others to dive in before it’s too late, and celebrating the episodes.

‘The Alienist Season 2, continues the gripping tale with a new and equally dark storyline,’ wrote Reachdebjani.

They continued: ‘@Netflix sent me a notification that the series is leaving on Aug 9th and I scrambled over to see what it contains Enthralling, gripping , unsettling. Highly recommended.’

The cast had instant chemistry (Picture: Kata Vermes)

In the first series, the trio of crime stoppers, try to figure out who is targeting young male prostitutes, and in the second, they are drawn into the investigation of a mysterious killer after trying to find the kidnapped infant daughter of the Spanish Consular.

Daniel, 46, previously spoke about what drew him to the material. ‘I always enjoyed reading dark stuff since I was a teenager so a part of me thought like, “Great! I’m happy to be in this gloomy, dark world.” So I actually enjoyed the scene with corpses,’ he told the Gold Derby.

Speaking about working with Dakota and Luke, he said the chemistry between them was instant.

‘The chemistry was there from the first moment on and that’s something you cannot foresee, that you cannot take for granted and it’s so good when you feel, you’re doing the first rehearsal and it makes click,’ he shared.

‘There’s a generosity there. There’s a curiosity in each other. So that was wonderful. ‘

The Alienist is available to watch on Netflix until August 9
