The owner of the property used as Walter White’s (Bryan Cranston) family home in Breaking Bad has revealed more details about her financial arrangement with producers.
Joanne Quintana’s house in Albuquerque, New Mexico was used at the White home throughout five seasons of the hit drama, about chemistry teacher Walter becoming a meth kingpin.
However, she set the record straight over how much her family were paid for the usage of their property – revealing Breaking Bad fans often wrongly believe they earned millions.
During an interview with GeeEntertainment on TikTok, Joanna said: ‘People assume we made millions, millions off the show.
‘We were not in the show so we did not get residuals, so we do not get compensated. We only got paid the location fee. A one-time fee. In and out. That’s it.’
Joanna did not specify the exact figure her family was paid but according to Paul Kim, founder of Image Locations, a US company that has supplied homes to productions involving the likes of Beyonce and Lady Gaga, it can rage from $12,000 (£9, 454) to $ 1 million (£787, 845) a year.

Paul told the Los Angeles Times: ‘Back in the day, people were OK with like $4,000 or $5,000 for a 12- or 14-hour day. Now, location budgets have doubled or tripled.
‘The high end of our homeowners make $1 million a year. The low end, probably $12,000.’
Joanna said her family did not need much convincing to rent their home to Breaking Bad after meeting with location scouts. She said they were intrigued to see the ‘magic behind Hollywood’ and meet actors.
However, they have struggled with over-zealous fans over the years.

In 2015, viewers of the show were lobbing pizzas onto the home’s roof to recreate a viral moment of the show involving Walter White.
In a burst of rage after being shut out by his family, the character throws an entire, unsliced piece on top of his house.
Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan was forced to tell off fans for doing the same to Joanna’s home.
He said at the time: ‘It is just not funny. It’s been done before. You are not the first.’
Last year, a person who did make an unexpected amount of money was the owner of Walter’s tighty-whities. The pants sold for a whopping $32,000 (£26,614).

In response, Bryan told Jimmy Fallon: ‘I mean people are crazy. ‘Who in their right mind is buying a pair of tighty-whitey underwear for 30 grand?’
Running for five seasons between 2008 and 2013, Breaking Bad followed Walter White turning to a life of crime to provide for his family after being diagnosed with terminal cancer, enlisting former student Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) to help.
By the time it wrapped up, the series had been singled out as the most critically acclaimed TV show of all time, picking up 248 nominations for awards like the Emmys and Golden Globes, whilst also giving rise to spin-off Better Call Saul.
In 2019, Bryan, Aaron, and other cast members revived their roles to star in film El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie. It served as a sequel to the TV series.
Breaking Bad is available to stream on Netflix.
