Baby Reindeer star Jessica Gunning has admitted that trying to find more TV work after the Netflix show’s worldwide success has been tough.

The Yorkshire-born actress, 38, starred as stalker Martha Scott in the black comedy thriller series developed by comedian and actor Richard Gadd, 34.

Baby Reindeer became a massive hit worldwide earlier this year after its release in April, making stars of its two leads and becoming one of the best-rated Netflix originals.

But despite the rave reviews and widespread popularity, it seems Jessica hasn’t seen that attention translate into more TV work just yet, despite the opportunities coming to her co-star Richard.

She admitted: ‘Richard has got incredible meetings out of this and everyone’s said to me, “What have you got?”‘

One TV offer did come her way, but not for a scripted series – instead she was asked to join up with a celebrity reality series which saw big names take on tough challenges.

‘One was about sharks — Celebrity Infested Waters — where stars swim with sharks, and the other was for an Australian touring production of Peter Pan to play Mr Smee.’

She joked that the offers were ‘flooding in’.

Jessica’s comments came from her appearance on Jessica Knappett’s Perfect Day podcast, on which she revealed that a project being made under Cate Blanchett’s production company is starting to come together.

‘I’ve been writing something for a million years that hopefully now is being a bit more made. I did a play with Cate Blanchett five or six years ago, and I had this idea with my friend which was a pilot but things have now picked up with that.’

Across her career, Jessica has appeared in episodes of Doctor Who, Holby City, Life of Riley, and Inside No. 9, as well as holding down a regular role on Law & Order UK between 2009 and 2014.

Since 2021, she has also starred in the Stephen Merchant comedy series The Outlaws, alongside the likes of Christopher Walken – Jessica wrote the final episode of season three, which was released back in May.

After the success of Baby Reindeer, the woman referred to as ‘the Real Martha’ from the series – Fiona Harvey – was allegedly identified by social media sleuths after viewers linked plot points from the show to an old Twitter account.

Fiona was subsequently found and interviewed by Piers Morgan, where she vowed to challenge Richard and in the courts, insisting that several of the events depicted in the series never happened.

However, other celebrities soon came forward with their experiences of dealing with the so-called ‘Real Martha’, including the likes of Janey Godley, Laura Wray, and current UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.

Even former MP and leader of the Workers Party of Britain George Galloway has claimed he was stalked by Fiona, also appearing on Piers Morgan’s TalkTV show to inform him.
