Shawn Mendes has raised eyebrows with his new tune, hinting at getting an ex-girlfriend pregnant with some rather cryptic lyrics.
The Canadian musician’s love life has hit the headlines on several occasions, as he famously dated Camila Cabello from 2019 until calling it quits in 2021.
Shawn, 26, has also been linked to Sabrina Carpenter and Hailey Bieber, the latter of whom is currently expecting her first child with husband Justin Bieber.
However, fans reckon Shawn is alluding to almost becoming a father himself on his latest track, Why Why Why.
The track, taken from his upcoming self-titled album, features lyrics suggesting Shawn ‘thought’ he was going to be a dad.
In which he sings fondly about a long-lost love, Shawn references a pregnancy scare at a young age.

‘Thought I was about to be a father,’ he sings in the closing verse.
‘Shook me to the core, I’m still a kid.
‘Sometimes I still cry out for my mother.
‘Why, why, why? Why, why, why?’
Shawn shared the track with his 72million Instagram followers upon its release.
‘Why Why Why & Isn’t That Enough are both out now. go listen,’ he wrote on his Story, followed by a white heart emoji.
He’s currently gearing up to release Shawn, his latest record, which drops on October 18.
Shawn is no stranger to documenting his romances in his music.
He and ex-Fifth Harmony member Camila even released a song together, Señorita, which broke streaming records, topped the charts, and even led to some rather steamy live performances between the pair.

Alas, Shawn and Camila are no longer an item, despite briefly rekindling their romance last year.
The singers first met in 2014 when they opened for Austin Mahone on tour and released a duet, I Know What You Did Last Summer.
It wasn’t until five years later that they confirmed they were an item, then growing closer during the pandemic after isolating together.
They even adopted a puppy together before going their separate ways.
But, fans were given fresh hope at Coachella 2023 when they were spotted kissing and canoodling, sparking rumours that they were back on.
Weeks later, they were seen piling on the PDA at Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, both friends of the Grammy-winning artist.
Sadly, it wasn’t to last, as the long-time friends called it quits again after that, with Havana singer Camila confessing on the Call Her Daddy podcast in March that it ‘didn’t feel right’.

Other than Camila, Shawn famously attended the Met Gala with Hailey in 2018, with the model tying the knot with pop star Justin just months later.
Then, in July 2022, Shawn ignited romance rumors with Jocelyn Miranda, his chiropractor.
Fans were shocked to learn they had a 20-year age gap, although neither explicitly confirmed that they were together.
Shawn was also papped with Espresso hitmaker Sabrina in February last year, and again in March, although Sabrina is now dating Irish actor Barry Keoghan.
Other than a few comments here and there in interviews, Shawn is pretty reserved when it comes to his dating life.
The songwriter – whose last album, Wonder, dropped in 2020 – has spoken about how he views making music as ‘medicine’.
Penning a heartfelt Instagram post ahead of his next release, he said: ‘2 years ago I felt like I had absolutely no idea who I was. A year ago I couldn’t step into a studio without falling into complete panic. So to be here right now with 12 beautiful finished songs feels like such a gift.

‘Honestly thank god for my friends and family. Life can be brutal but having a small group of people you deeply trust to walk you through makes it so much better.
‘I have no idea how I would have made it through the last couple years let alone make an album without you. Scott, Mike, Eddie, Andrew, Ziggy, Sylvie, Rachel, Brian, Prash, Sarah, Meghan, Connor, Tony, Aaliyah, mum, dad, Jocelyne, H.O.M, Matty. All of my Friends and Family, thank you for loving on me so hard.’
Concluding with a sweet note to his loyal fans, he added: ‘And to you guys who have been so unbelievably supportive and patient and loving thank you from the bottom of my heart.
‘I really hope you love this album, I do. I really really do. I hope it makes you feel warm and close to the earth like it does for me.’
