He’s spent years playing Ethan Hunt in the Mission: Impossible franchise, and Tom Cruise brought Hollywood to the Olympics closing ceremony with a series of impressive stunts.

Cruise’s big moment as the speeches concluded and US R&B star H.E.R. performed the American national anthem, Stars And Stripes, on her guitar.

During the flag transfer to Los Angeles, which will host the next Games in 2028, Cruise then descended from the roof of Stade de France in Paris to make the occasion as spectacular as possible.

After being suspended on the disc-shaped roof 42metres off the ground, the actor was greeted by a swarm of fans, all desperate for a selfie as he made his way to the stage.

Having greeted Olympians in the audience, he shook hands with the mayor of Los Angeles, Karen Bass, before taking the Olympic flag from her.

Cruise, 62, then hopped on a motorbike – because, of course – and carried the flag on a joyride out of the stadium.

The ceremony cut to pre-recorded footage of the action star gallivanting around the French capital, zooming past Parisian landmarks like the Eiffel Tower before arriving at an airport.

After boarding the aircraft, Cruise could be seen skydiving out of the plane and later landing in America.

The star then trekked the flag up to the famous Hollywood sign, which had been transformed with Olympic rings, before he passed it on to US cyclist Kate Courtney.

Oh, by the way, he was wearing his trademark leather jacket for all of this, obviously.

Cruise’s hair-raising stunt series was followed by a much more chilled performance from a series of A-list Californian natives, who offered a taste of what is to come in four years.

After the Olympic flag was passed between several US Olympians, it arrived at the famous beach where the Red Hot Chili Peppers were playing their hit Can’t Stop

The rock band then handed the stage to Billie Eilish who delivered a sweet rendition of her new track Birds Of A Feather.

Dressed in an oversized T-shirt, shorts, and baseball cap, she was joined by her producer brother, FINNEAS, on guitar.

Finally, Snoop Dogg, who has popped up at various events across the Olympics, entered to perform his classic track Drop It Like It’s Hot alongside US fellow rapper Dr Dre.
