Rachael Lillis was remembered for being a ‘bright light that shone through her voice’

Pokémon star Rachael Lillis has died aged 46 after being diagnosed with cancer.

Lillis was best known for voicing Misty and Jessie in productions including Pokémon: The First Movie and Pokémon: Destiny Deoxys.

Her death was confirmed by her friend Veronica Taylor, who voices Ash Ketchum and his mother Delia in the first eight seasons of the Pokémon series.

On X, she wrote: ‘We all know Rachael Lillis from the many wonderful roles she played. She filled our Saturday mornings and before/after school hours with her beautiful voice, her terrific comic timing, and her remarkable acting skills.

‘Rachael was an extraordinary talent, a bright light that shone through her voice whether speaking or singing. She will be forever remembered for the many animated roles she played, with her iconic performances as Pokemon’s Misty and Jessie being the most beloved.

‘Rachael was so thankful for all the generous love and support that was given to her as she battled cancer. It truly made a positive difference. Her family also wishes to thank you as they take this time to grieve privately. A memorial is being planned for a future date.’

In May, it was announced Lillis had been diagnosed with cancer when her sister launched a GoFundMe to help fund her medical bills.

She said Lillis had been living in a nursing home facility in LA since January and wanted to pay for a personal nurse.

More than $90,000 (£70,000) was raised out of a goal of $100,000 (£78,000).

In the GoFundMe page’s latest update, Lillis’ sister said any remaining funds would pay for outstanding medical bills, a memorial service, and donations to cancer charities.

Lillis also worked on Tamagotchi the Movie, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles TV series and Yu-Gi-Oh!.
