Tom Daley could be diving into his next challenge pretty quickly after retirement.

His odds at being a future campmate on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! have rapidly shot up just hours after he announced the end of his professional diving career.

The 30-year-old athlete announced he would be stepping away from his sport earlier today, after competing in five consecutive Olympic Games.

He made his Olympic debut aged just 14 at the Beijing Games in 2008, and now 16 years later, he won a silver medal at the Paris Games to add to his collection of three bronzes and one gold.

While he may not be jumping off boards 10 metres above a swimming pool anyone, he could instead be throwing himself out of a plane in the Australian-based reality show.

According to the latest odds from Ladbrokes, he’s just 3/1 to appear on the next series of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!

It’s certainly been a popular career choice for Olympians over the years, with Sam Quek MBE, and Amir Khan, amongst the sportspeople who gave jungle life a go.

Tom is also no stranger to reality TV himself – from 2013 to 2014, he was the expert mentor on Splash. The ITV competition series saw celebrities learn how to dive and show off the skills in a live episode.

Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards, and Perri Kiely, managed to clinch the wins before the series was axed.

After closing the Olympics chapter of his life, Tom told British Vogue: ‘It feels very, very surreal. I felt so incredibly nervous going into this, knowing it was my last Olympics.

‘There was a lot of pressure and expectation. I was eager for it to be done… but when I walked out, and saw my husband [Dustin Lance Black] and kids [Robbie and Phoenix] and my friends and family in the audience, I was like, you know what? This is exactly why I did this.

‘I’m here, and no matter what happens in the competition itself, I’m going to be happy.’

‘It was emotional at the end, up there on the platform, knowing it was going to be my last competitive dive,’ he added.

‘But I have to make the decision at some point, and it feels like the right time.

‘It’s the right time to call it a day.’

His husband-of-six-years shared his pride on Instagram, writing: ‘I’m so incredibly proud of you, Tom. You’re an inspiration to me, our boys, and the entire world.’

Potentially joining I’m A Celeb isn’t the only thing on Tom’s agenda.

He provided punditry for Eurosport during the latter half of the Games and plans to continue being in front of the camera.

While he’s a famously keen knitter, Tom has also enrolled in a course at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles to add sewing to his skillset.

‘I knit and I crochet, but sewing will just add a whole different level of knowledge as to how to construct things,’ he said.

‘I’ve actually designed a couple of pieces of underwear that I’m going to be launching, and then I’m also hoping to launch a swimwear project next year.’

Perhaps he could wear a few of the pieces in the jungle shower.
