The team behind Evil Dead: The Game has announced two new games based on John Carpenter’s Halloween, with one being made in Unreal Engine 5.
Ever since Dead By Daylight became a huge success, there’s been a wave of officially licensed horror games which have attempted to steal its thunder.
In recent years, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Killer Klowns From Outer Space, Predator, and The Evil Dead have all taken a stab at the same online asymmetrical multiplayer format, to mixed success.
Boss Team Games, the developers behind Evil Dead: The Game, has now announced it is working on two new projects based on John Carpenter’s 1978 horror classic Halloween, although it is unclear whether it will be multiplayer orientated.
While there’s no specific details about how each game will play, the developers have said the titles will allow players ‘to relive moments from the film and play as classic characters from one of the most iconic and important horror films of all time’.
As revealed by IGN, one of the games is being developed in Unreal Engine 5 with input from Halloween director John Carpenter, who is ‘intimately involved’ in the project.
‘As a huge gamer myself, I’m thrilled to help bring Michael Myers to life again in this game, and my hope is to scare you silly,’ Carpenter said.
The director is already working on a video game titled John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando, which was announced at Summer Game Fest last year, although there’s been no updates about it since.
Based on the artwork from the announcement, one of the titles will be called Halloween: The Game, which might be a multiplayer orientated take on the series considering it follows the same naming convention as Evil Dead: The Game.
There has only been one game based on Halloween before, which was an Atari 2600 title from 1983 that didn’t actually include references to the film’s characters. Michael Myers is also playable in Dead By Daylight, where he’s called ‘The Shape’.
While Evil Dead: The Game was flawed in its gameplay, it was at least a well crafted homage to the franchise, so there’s reason to have some optimism for these Halloween projects.
No release date has been announced for either Halloween game, but the Unreal Engine 5 title is said to be early in development.
Will it play like Evil Dead: The Game? (Saber Interactive)
