Good Morning Britain stand-in presenter Trisha Goddard has been praised by viewers, who have begged for her to stay on permanently.

The 66-year-old, who was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer earlier this year, was previously a staple on ITV with her programme Trisha, which aired from 1998 until 2010.

This week she is joining GMB for two appearances, with those tuning in sharing their approval of her addition to the line-up.

‘I am loving Trisha on #GMB. Please can she stay forever,’ Rob posted on X.

‘It’s refreshing to have Trisha on GMB. Can’t we have her as a regular co presenter for Susanna Reid?’ Paul questioned.

‘Love Trisha, hope she’s back on as a regular,’ Jane shared.

Meanwhile Andy added: ‘Absolute treat to wake up to Trisha guest presenting on GMB this morning – breath of fresh air.

A few hours after the show aired, Trisha posted a message on Instagram thanking people for their support.

‘Not gonna lie…started off a little bit nervous, but Richard Madeley and the GMB team are just so sweet and supportive, so managed to get into my stride…’ she began.

‘Thanks also to Joleigh, my hospital nurse-practitioner back in Connecticut for helping me work out how to juggle my meds to minimize side effects so I didn’t get too whacked out or floored on air!

‘Shout out to all those living with serious chronic illnesses who have to learn the best ways to maximize those good energy times and plan their medications on workdays through trial and error. Plus, all those teams, GPs and services and loved ones who help us keep working – because a sense of purpose and accomplishment is so vital to good mental health.’

She added: ‘And thank YOU all you lovely, gorgeous folk for your tear-to-the-eye sweet and supportive messages. It means the world to me.’

When confirming the news of her stepping up to co-present, Trisha told Kate Garraway and Ed Milliband she was ‘nervous’ and had been ‘shaking like a chihuahua’ during an appearance on the programme last week.

In February, Trisha said she was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer – also known as metastatic or stage 4 breast cancer. The disease is incurable, but there is treatment available.

She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 and has been in recovery since.

Speaking previously to Hello! Magazine, the TV presenter declared that she ‘won’t hide anymore’.

‘It’s not going to go away,’ she said of her illness. ‘And with that knowledge comes grief, and fear. But I must keep enjoying what I have always enjoyed.’

In 2022, Trisha secretly tied the knot for the fourth time. Her partner’s identity was initially secret but he was later revealed to be called Allen.

The couple live together in Connecticut, where she said she gets a choice about how to treat her stage 4 cancer. Trisha said she chose ‘life-prolonging’ care.

Trisha defiantly that she does not want to be a ‘poster girl’ for cancer as that’s ‘not who I am’ or ‘why I’m here’.

She also doesn’t want to read words such as ‘dying’, ‘terminal’, or ‘battling’ associated with her, nor does she want to be hailed as ‘inspirational’.

After soaring to fame with Trisha, the broadcaster went on to star in a host of TV shows including Loose Women.

More recently, she was the first celebrity eliminated from Dancing on Ice and appeared on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories.

Trisha currently presents on TalkTV and CNN.
