A free mod that lets fans who own Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered play Modern Warfare 2 sees the 2017 remaster become the top-selling game on Steam.
The classic Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare initially came out in 2007, but fans got to revisit old maps and weapons almost a decade later, after a petition started circulating online asking for a remaster.
That remaster materialised in 2016, called Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, and it was equally good, including graphical enhancements, updated animations, and new multiplayer content.
Modern Warfare Remastered has now suddenly soared to the top spot of Steam’s top-selling games, as fans get ready for a new free mod that will also allow them to play 2009’s Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer.
The mod is called H2M and is coming out on Friday, August 16. It aims to do for Modern Warfare 2 what Modern Warfare Remastered did for the first game.
It will let those who already own Modern Warfare Remastered play the mod and its remastered Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer, with every map, mode, and weapons from the base game.
‘A mod for Modern Warfare 1 Remastered which recreates all of MW2 Multiplayer with new twists,’ its Twitter profile states.
Once the mod is live, you’ll be able to download it from the project’s website, here.
Right now, Modern Warfare Remastered is the most downloaded game on Steam, even surpassing free-to-play shooters such as Counter-Strike 2 (second on the list) and Apex Legends (seventh).
It’s helped that Modern Warfare Remastered has been 50% off for a while now, though the offer ends Wednesday, August 14, at 6pm UK time.
On PC, Modern Warfare Remastered peaked at about 1,400 active players when it first came out in 2017, and has flatlined since then at between 100 and 250.
Since the announcement of the upcoming mod, however, it is now nearing 500 players, and it will likely keep growing once H2M comes out on Friday.
