Sofia Vergara has revealed she is begging her former Modern Family co-star Ed O’Neill ‘not to die’ so they can do a reboot.
The American sitcom first hit screens in 2009, airing for 11 seasons before ending in 2020.
It followed the lives of three diverse family set-ups living in suburban Los Angeles, who are interrelated through their patriarch, Jay Pritchett, played by Ed.
Over its run, the show won a total of 22 Emmy Awards, while its success also saw Sofia, 52, become the highest paid actor on US television.
Although it’s only been four years since the series wrapped up, Sofia is already keen to revisit her role, but has joked there is something standing in her way.
‘I always joke with him,’ she said of her former co-star Ed, 78.

‘”Ed, don’t die. Because if we do the sequel, it will take some time, and you’re the oldest of us. You can’t be dead!”,’ she told Variety.
The actress also recalled how that after watching Ed in the recent mini-series Clipped, in which he plays L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling, she told him: ‘You look f***ing old.’

She also said that she would ‘die to be on that set’ again.
‘It’d be so much fun. A TV movie maybe?’ she considered.
Earlier this year their co-star Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who played Mitchell Pritchett, sent fans of the sitcom into a frenzy with a cryptic Instagram post.
Sharing a photo from the Dunphy house on his Instagram stories, he captioned the post: ‘Haven’t seen this view in a while.’

The blast from the past naturally sent the internet into meltdown, with many Modern Family viewers speculating a reboot could be on the cards.
Although there were also initially plans for a spin-off focussing on Mitchell, his husband Cam (Eric Stonestreet) and their adopted daughter Lily (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons) as they settled into their new Missouri home, it never came to fruition.
Speaking about the potential show in 2022, Jesse explained it had been shelved during an appearance on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live.
‘There were discussions. I think the network decided against it. That’s the first time I ever said that!’ he said.
Modern Family is streaming on Disney Plus.
