‘Brat summer served by M&S’ beam staff as shoppers go wild for knitted vest with ‘gorgeous’ detail
MARKS and Spencer staff have joked they’re serving “Brat Summer” after unveiling an autumn top with “gorgeous” detailing.
The fashion trend is inspired by Brit pop star Charlie XCX’s hit album Brat which was released in June.

Summing up the Brat Girl aesthetic, Charlie said: “You’re that girl who is a bit messy and loves to party and maybe says dumb things sometimes.
“She’s honest, blunt and a little bit volatile. That’s Brat.”
But other fashionistas have taken the trend more literally, based on Charlie’s minimalistic album cover featuring “brat” written in low-res font on a lime green background.
And ‘brat green’ quickly became the colour of the season, popping up all over the high street.

The Scallop Edge Button Detail Knitted Vest has been hailed for its button detailing on the shoulders and “effortless” style.
It is priced at £29.50 and comes in sizes extra small to extra large.
M&S bosses say: “This knitted vest is a versatile piece that can be dressed up or down.
“It’s made in an effortless regular fit, with an easy crew neck.
“The scalloped edges add a feminine touch to the textured design.
“It comes with military-look buttons on the shoulders to give a smart finish”
And it’s already being snapped up by shoppers, as one gushed: “Gorgeous colour and I love the buttons on the shoulder.”
A second added: “Very nice top, lovely, great detail. I am a size 8 or 10 and the small was perfect.”
Meanwhile, a third wrote: “Nice colour and I like the button trim on the shoulders.”
If this has inspired you to visit your nearest M&S, you might also want to keep an eye out for a £19.50 top that shoppers have insisted “needs to go viral“.
Modelling the one shoulder top, available in black or white, one shopper gushed: “I’ve found the best top. It’s £19.50. It’s a great little going out top. Love. It’s such an easy staple.
“Where have these M&S tops been all our lives!? SO so good.”
Why everyone is loving M&S
Deputy Fashion Editor Abby McHale revealed to Fabulous why M&S is the shop of the moment. She explained:
“M&S has really pulled it out of the bag this season, there is so much good product to be excited about.
“A brand once known for its ‘frumpy fashion’ that notion is long gone with it now being one of the leading high street stores for womenswear.
“Its handbag range in particular is super strong with them selling 170% vs plan, with lots more designer dupes for just a fraction of the price.
“The brand is now also the #1 for style perceptions, compared to the #3 spot it had last year, this comes from a really strong design team focused on modernising the brand, not only taking into consideration how the pieces look, but how easy they are to wear also.
“Price is also a big factor with you being able to get many good quality pieces all for under £30.
“After having a sneak peak of the upcoming collection there are so many more amazing pieces that are dropping over the next few months to keep your eyes on.
“Think leopard print dresses, colourful co-ords, embroidered boho jackets, plus lots of swimwear and amazing accessories, as well as great wardrobe staples that will last year on year.”
