A new action movie starring Halle Berry and Mark Wahlberg has been branded ‘superb’ and ‘pure fun’ by fans as it arrives on Netflix.
The Union tells the story of Mike McKenna (Wahlberg) who is unexpectedly thrust into the world of super spies and secret agents after being recruited by his high school sweetheart Roxanne (Berry).
The pair embark on a high-stakes US intelligence mission in the flick, directed by Entourage’s Julian Farino.
And it has proved a hit with viewers, with many lauding Berry and Wahlberg’s acting in the action-packed spy film.
‘Superb Movie,’ Jeff Kehoe wrote on X. ‘Loved the Interactions & the Spirit & the Humour👏 Great Car Chase & Fight Scenes👊’
Doughtnotman added: ‘@halleberry‘s #TheUnion was the first time I enjoyed an action movie in a long time

‘Btw, Halle Berry is 58? She got some forever genes mehn Shout out to
@markwahlberg too. The onscreen chemistry with Halle was believable.’
Pramitheus wrote: ‘Netflix keeps trying to make mission: impossible movie clones & i think they finally have a good one with the union. Quite refreshing to see spies in their 50s rekindling their romance. the action is great. Halle Berry is wow, whattawow.’
ForgeCarter said: ‘Well this was just pure fun. Halle should definitely do more action movies. I’m still waiting for her John Wick spin-off.’
Not everyone was convinced, however, with others bashing the ‘dull’ story, characters, and ‘suspect’ portrayal of London.
ItsCineDash posted: ‘The Union has nothing new to offer from the very start, yet the sparkling chemistry among its two leads and a few action sequences makes up for the not so engaging screenplay.
‘Halle Berry is great in action and Mark Wahlberg is good enough to fit in as a man caught up in chaos.’

Others branded the film ‘basic’ (Picture: Netflix)
Matt Hambidge added: ‘The Union is about as average a movie as you can find. Nothing you haven’t seen before several times over. But it’s easy, fun, and surprisingly watchable.’
Josh Blumenkranz additionally wrote: ‘The Union is a basic spy comedy but with very little laughs. Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry have some chemistry but not much. And there is very little backstory to the relationship. Fun action and a few jokes. Side Characters don’t do much. A basic film. 4/10.’
Speaking about the film, Farino revealed why Wahlberg and Berry’s characters never actually kiss in the film, teasing a potential future franchise.
‘We take the relationship to a certain place, and then I think you’ve got to leave a lot of space to go,’ he told Variety at the film’s Los Angeles premiere.
‘Netflix always said to us at the beginning, “You have to think of this as a possible three-movie idea.” So if an audience comes out wanting a kiss, then we’ve probably done alright, in my opinion.’
The Union is available to stream now on Netflix.
