Ashanti reveals she gave birth to her first child with husband Nelly one month ago-Brooke Ivey Johnson-Entertainment – Metro

Grammy Award-winning singer Ashanti and her husband, rapper Nelly have welcomed their first child together.

The couple, who have been together on and off for years, are now proud parents to a baby boy, Kareem Kenkaide Haynes, born on July 18, 2024.

Ashanti, 43, and Nelly, 49, shared the news on Instagram, where Ashanti posted a series of photos capturing her early days of motherhood.

In one of the images, the singer is seen wearing disposable underwear, taking a selfie in the mirror.

The image offers a glimpse into her ‘fourth trimester,’ a term often used to describe the postpartum period.

‘Ashanti and Nelly welcomed their baby boy, Kareem Kenkaide Haynes, on July 18, 2024. The proud and happy parents are so in love with KK!’ a representative for the couple told People Magazine.

Ashanti also shared a video in the Instagram post, where she appeared in a blue robe, proudly showing off her postpartum body.

‘Four weeks postpartum. You have no idea what this body can do,’ she wrote.

In her heartfelt caption, Ashanti expressed her deep emotions about becoming a mother: ‘Funny how life’s plans aren’t…always on time.. lol. I’ve been waiting to be a mom for a long time now but nothing could prepare me for EVERYTHING motherhood brings!’ she wrote.

She also gave a nod to her postpartum body, saying, ‘This is what postpartum looks like. I’m loving these super cozy @fridamom shorts! I’m so proud of my body for giving me my baby, baby, baby, baby, baby. 😆.’

The couple first announced they were expecting their baby when Ashanti shared a playful video on Instagram.

As she was preparing for a performance, her mother, Tina Douglas, asked how much time she needed. ‘Uh, I’m gonna need about nine months,’ Ashanti replied, surprising her mother with the news of her pregnancy.

Shortly after, the singer revealed in an interview with Essence that she was not only pregnant but also engaged to Nelly. ‘This new year of my life is such a blessing full of love, hope, and anticipation,’ Ashanti said.

‘Motherhood is something that I have looked forward to, and sharing this with my family, fiancé, and loyal fans, who have been so supportive of my career, is an amazing experience.’

The couple tied the knot on December 27, 2023.Their pregnancy was hinted at during the 11th Black and White Ball at the Four Seasons Hotel in December 2023, when Ashanti rested her hands on her stomach, and Nelly followed suit, sparking rumors that a baby was on the way.

The Dilemma rapper and Foolish singer previously dated for around 11 years before calling time on their relationship in 2014.

Nelly, who confirmed their reconciliation in September 2023 during an appearance on the Boss Moves with Rasheeda show, expressed how their reunion was unexpected but fulfilling. ‘It wasn’t anything that we planned. We both were pretty much doing what we do,’ he explained. ‘But sometimes, being separate, you understand one another more.’

Kareem Kenkaide Haynes is Ashanti’s first child, but Nelly is already a father to two adult children, Cornell III, 25, and Chanelle, 30.
