We may still be counting down to the end of Summer, but Good Morning Britain has decided that it’s time to start talking about Christmas.

We still have 126 days until Santa comes calling (not to mention Halloween, Strictly Come Dancing and everything else happening in between), but the ITV programme has left viewers aghast with a discussion on whether it was too early for seasonal festivities.

A GMB debate saw hosts Kate Garraway and Adil Ray surrounded by fairylights, tinsel and with Mariah Carey playing on the background.

‘Look it’s August, we are drenched in Christmas and so are the shops quite frankly, the baubles are up, the gift sets are on the shelves, it’s all happening,’ Kate began.

A debate between a dad wearing a Christmas jumper and a mum-of-two arguing it must begin in December then ensued over whether it is too early to start shopping for mince pies and digging your Christmas tree out of the loft.

‘We haven’t even had August bank holiday yet,’ Kate argued, as Adil insisted that after a ‘tough year’ it would be nice to have some celebrations.

Former gymnast Lisa, arguing that it was too soon for Michael Bublé, declared: ‘I’m still wearing shorts, so I think it is absolutely ludicrous that we’re sitting here talking about Christmas.

‘It’s the UK jump from barbeques to hog roasts and scented candles, it’s insane to me, I don’t understand the need for it at all.’

Meanwhile, radio DJ Alex encouraged viewers to start stocking up on Christmas decorations now and avoid ‘unnecessary spending’ closer to the end of the year.

Our verdict? Yes, it certainly is far too early.

And viewers clearly think so too, with @JaneMon90605097 writing on X: ‘I’ve not been my summer holiday yet so too early for Christmas! End of November at the earliest.’

@1Jennyb fumed: ‘#GMB being completely irrelevant talking about Christmas in August. Someone needs sacking if that’s the best idea for content they can come up with. Changed channels.’

‘Should be illegal to mention the word until 1st December,’ @@FionaSi05717634 said.

@wendy0 said: ‘I love Christmas, it really is the most wonderful time of the year, but can we not have at least two consecutive sunny days of summer first?! It’s AUGUST!!!!!’

‘Clear off Christmas, too early…’ @teenamassam also wrote.

‘Yes celebrate every day if you want, but leave anything ‘Christmas’ till December. That’s what makes it special -even the ‘last minute shopping’ chaos,’ @EmilyMulti agreed.

@StillNotWitty said: ‘I refuse to even think about Christmas before we’ve had Halloween. And certainly not before my f**king birthday.’

Others however were getting right into the spirit.

‘Loving @AdilRay Christmas energy just brilliant and with Kate this is such a fun show loving the energy.’ @mrsjbutler said.

‘Turn on #gmb and see my two favourite things, Christmas and @adilray,’ @Lucys_portraits added.

‘Never too soon for Christmas,’ @deli21girl agreed.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV1.
