Jeremy Clarkson has left fans questioning the potential hidden meaning behind the name of his new pub.

The Clarkson’s Farm star, 64, recently splashed £1,000,000 on a pub in the Cotswolds, adding to his ever-growing business portfolio.

His efforts to run the pub, which is 10 miles down the road from his hugely popular Diddly Squat Farm Shop, is set to feature in the next season of his smash-hit Amazon Prime series.

However, before then, Jeremy has announced some exciting news, this week revealing the venue’s name and opening date.

Before he took over ownership, the pub was called The Windmill, but it has now undergone a rebrand.

On Instagram, a new account was set up for the pub, revealing its name to be The Farmer’s Dog.

Confirming the opening times, its first post on the page revealed: ‘The Farmer’s Dog opens Friday 23rd August 12pm ..OX18 4HJ ///grinders.fruits.pints #backbritishfarmingdrinkhawkstone ..follow us to get the latest news.’

A picture of a fox-red labrador takes pride of place on the pub’s logo, which is also the breed of Clarkson’s two pet dogs, Sansa and Arya.

While many rushed to share their excitement over the upcoming opening, and their love of the name, others had some questions about the inspiration behind it.

‘That is a great name. Dogs have saved many a farmer,’ Rosie commented.

However, many others wanted to know if there was a more X-rated meaning.

‘Owned by a farmer and placed on a former dogging site was the inspiration?’ Romero questioned.

‘Knew you’d get dog(ging) in the name somehow,’ Zoe posted.

‘Really missed the opportunity to call it “The Dogging Inn” from what was found in the car park,’ Hayley added.

Meanwhile, user ladyloki joked it was a ‘homage to its previous incarnation as a dogging site’.

Their comments come after Jeremy posted a video on social media last month after he discovered the property was a ‘renowned dogging spot’.

Sharing a clip of himself outside his new boozer, Jeremy lifted up a stick with a pair of black and pink lacey knickers on the tip.

He said: ‘Tell me you bought a pub on a dogging site without telling me you bought a pub on a dogging site.’

At the time some of his fans advised him to rename his pub ‘The Dog Inn’.

Jeremy owns the freehold to the pub, and it is not attached to a brewery, meaning he will be able to sell his own beer and produce.

In his Sunday Times column, Jeremy previously detailed his vision and said he had always dreamed of owning a pub.

‘I had failed to get planning permission to turn a barn on my farm into a restaurant, but I still wanted somewhere where I could sell all that we make here. And my own beer in the taps too,’ he wrote.

‘I also wanted a room I could turn into a clubhouse, which, on wet weekdays, would provide a mental health forum and a free pint for the nation’s farmers. I wanted dogs and families round the fire.

‘And a restaurant where absolutely everything had been grown or reared in Britain. Even the salt, pepper and wine. I had even decided there’d be no coffee or Coca-Cola.’

Clarkson’s Farm is streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
