Former footballer turned TV presenter Jermaine Jenas – who has been fired by the BBC for ‘inappropriate behaviour’ – lives a luxurious life with his young family offscreen.

The 41-year-old sports personality has been a regular fixture on The Match of the Day and The One Show for several years after retiring from football in 2016.

However, in a shock turn of events, a source told The Sun that Jermaine has been taken off air after a routine investigation into a complaint about his behaviour. The source described the situation as a ‘categorical nightmare’ for the BBC.

They continued: ‘The BBC’s new Director of Sport Alex Kay-Jelski has been heavily involved in this whole process, and is adamant that his new house is firmly in order, and there are no skeletons.

‘At present, the feeling is he won’t be back on the BBC.’

A BBC spokesperson confirmed Jermaine is ‘no longer part of our presenting line up’ to Metro.co.uk in a statement. His future with the broadcaster remains unclear.

Who is Jermaine Jenas?

The Nottingham-born 41-year-old grew up on a large council estate in Clifton, Bristol.

‘It’s just pure poverty there. But there was a lot of love on our estate. And it was my training ground. It made me who I am today,’ he recently told The Big Issue.

He has also been candid about his experience of racism growing up and the racism faced by Black footballers. He investigated the rise of online abuse in a 2021 documentary, Hunting the Football Trolls.

He made his senior football debut in 2000, aged 17, and has since played for football clubs such as Nottingham Forest (where he started his career), Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa (on loan), and Queens Park Rangers.

He was also part of the England senior football team as a central midfielder throughout the 2000s where he earned 21 caps.

He retired from football in 2016 due to a knee injury. Recounting the story to the Guardian in a recent interview, he said: ‘I heard this massive click and I felt I was unable to move my leg in a certain direction.

‘I went to have a scan, then got a phone call from a doctor saying, “Look, I’m sorry but you’ve got an anterior cruciate ligament, it’s ruptured. Everything is wrong with it.”

‘Once I was off the phone I said to my wife, “I don’t know what I’m going to do.” She was optimistic, but I tried for the best part of 15 months to get back and eventually the surgeon told me I was going to have to call my football career a day.’

Since then he has pursued a media career, originally joining BT Sports as a pundit.

In 2020, he began co-presenting The One Show with Alex Jones and his last appearance was on July 22 followed by a two-week break for Olympics coverage..

He was paid between £190,000-£194,999 by the BBC in the year 2022 to 2023 according to the corporation’s annual report.

Reflecting on his football career recently, he added to Big Issue: ‘I played for England, played Champions League football, went to a World Cup, won a major trophy, and played in every great stadium there is.

‘But I think if I was to tell my younger self, he would have said that’s good, but you should have done more.’

Jermaine’s wife is model Ellie Penfold. The pair got engaged in 2009 and married in 2011.

In an interview with Belfast Telegraph, Jermaine gushed about his wife, saying: ‘She’s been a rock keeping the family going through tough times.’

He also recalled her first impression of him and his Ferarri.

‘She actually made me get rid of the car because it was too noisy! She’s told me she thought when we first met that I was a bit of an over-confident idiot, but I won her over finally,’ he added, per the Mirror.

The loved-up couple now share three children, Geneva, ten, Olivia, seven, and three-year-old Jacob. He also shares another daughter, Sancha, 16, with his first partner who lives in the US.

He announced Jacob’s birth in 2021 with a series of photos on Instagram with the caption: ‘Jacob Anthony Jenas, 08.10.21 You have no idea how loved you are! Good luck with three big sisters though!!’

Speaking about his long-distance relationship with his oldest child, he told MailOnline: ‘It was a tough one for me and a tough one for my daughter, but I didn’t want to get in the way of my ex moving on with her life.’

Explaining the family setup, he added: ‘She was here until she was seven and then her mum decided that she wanted to go and live in the States because she met a guy from America, and they got married and had a family.

‘We came to the decision to co-parent in the best way we possibly could, but she comes over every summer and I have her for a good 8-9 weeks and she comes over at Christmas as well.’

Now Jermaine lives with his wife and three other children in a £1 million mansion in Hertfordshire home.
