Netflix viewers have shared their thoughts on a ‘triggering’ thriller series that has just been released on the streaming service.

The Accident is set in Santa Cruz, Mexico and follows a close-knit community that is shattered after a birthday party takes a tragic turn.

Directed by Klych López and Gracia Querejeta and written by Leonardo Padrón, it stars Ana Claudia Talancón, Eréndira Ibarra and Erick Elías.

When well-to-do couple Daniela (Talancón) and Emiliano (Martínez) throw a birthday party for their son, Rodrigo, everything seems to be going smoothly.

The young boy and his friends are playing while the parents are getting to know each other a bit better, however when wind unexpectedly picks up, a horrific accident kills three children after the bouncy castle they are on gets picked up and blown away.

The parents, as they deal with the aftermath, throw blame around at themselves and others: Emiliano was on a business call when it happened – leading some to question whether he was negligent.

Meanwhile the family’s housekeeper, Moncho (Palacios), was sneaking alcohol during the party.

Netflix has teased: ‘As the incident rocks the community, everyone grapples with who’s really at fault.’

Since the show was released a few days ago, fans have rushed through the 10-episodes, whilst also sharing their thoughts on social media.

‘I thought I outgrown telenovelas, but there’s a show called The Accident on Netflix… and it reminded me how outrageous soap opera plot are,’ X user rootbeer wrote, before sharing some of the show’s more outrageous plot details.

‘A bunch of kids literally got blown up into the air inside a balloon house. Literally flown away. Kids died, some missings. Grieving parents turned violent. Start to blame the worker who set up the bouncy castle. Decided to burn the housekeeper and gardener house with their children in it(lol what?). All because of a freak accident final destination style. It’s 1 to 100 in just the first episode

‘Look at these happy kids,’ they added.

‘The accident on Netflix is a definitely must watch 1000/10,’ Shanique posted.

‘One of the best series this year is The Accident on Netflix. Freaking mad!’ tailormarique added.

User Morgan also shared how unsettled the show left her.

‘The Accident on Netflix is super triggering. I can’t tell you how many parties we have been to with bounce houses but I’m pretty sure I will never look at one the same,’ she commented.

Some viewers called it ‘the saddest show’ they had ever watched (Picture: Netflix)

Others called it a ‘must watch’, ‘crazy’ and that the series, with it’s many ‘plot twists’ had them ‘hooked’.

Another went so far to call it the ‘saddest show I’ve ever watched in my life’ and many others were left ‘in tears’.

Although this series isn’t based on a true story, many drew parallels with a similar real-life tragedy that unfolded in Australia three years ago.

In 2021 five children were killed after a bouncy castle they were playing on was lifted 10 metres into the air by a gust of wind during end-of-year celebrations at a school in Tasmania.

The Accident is streaming on Netflix.
