Paloma Faith has revealed she went ‘psychotic’ after her daughter’s birth after she became convinced that her daughter wasn’t biologically hers.

Paloma, 43, and her former partner artist Leyman Lahcine have two daughters, aged three and eight, and conceived their second daughter by IVF.

The Only Love Can Hurt Like This singer explained that their second daughter’s fairer looks made her convinced there could have been a mix-up at the IVF clinic as she thought her daughter was too blonde.

‘My hair colour is naturally dark, and my ex-partner is fully Algerian, but this baby was blonde, and it was really freaking me out,’ she explained.

‘I went a bit psychotic, because after being in the clinic, I was thinking “Whose baby is this?”‘

‘I was really worried, and I rang the clinic and asked, “Is there a chance . . .” I was worried that my actual child might be living in Hampstead with a family and having horse-riding lessons,’ the singer told The Sun.

The singer, who has never revealed her children’s names publically, went on to say that she was struggling with ‘disassociation’ because of the fertility treatment and immediate separation after her youngest daughter’s birth.

‘Because of the disassociation after having a baby through fertility treatment, then a planned caesarean . . . then they took that baby away from me, because she couldn’t breathe very well for six or seven hours.’

‘Therefore I didn’t have that first connection and then I looked at her and was like: ‘Where’s mine?’ Especially because the first one looks Arabic, so I’d had an Arabic baby already, and I was like, ‘Where’s the other Arabic one?’ I was really worried.’

She revealed that despite her frantic concerns, she was reassured by the medical IVF team who assured her a mix-up had not taken place.

‘Apparently, they pre-made all the pots first, so it has your name on it before whatever goes into it.’

‘Who knows? It might not be my child, but I really love her, so I’m keeping her!’ she joked.

Paloma and her former partner split in 2022 after nine years together.

Earlier this year, she revealed that having children was key to the breakdown of her relationship. ’Our relationship ended because we have those children,’ she told The Independent. ‘And I think that was worth it.’

‘You either grow together, adapting to one another like expandable foam and filling the gaps where it’s empty – or one person grows and the other stays the same,’

In an episode of Great Company with Jamie Laing, the popstar added that she is still navigating her breakup with her partner.

‘We have children together and that’s what makes this a different type of heartbreak album because the heartbreak will be forever and the navigation of our relationship changing shape will be forever, probably until we die’ she said.

‘You can’t really let go of someone you’ve got kids with.’

‘In my case, it’s even harder I think in a way because we really like each other a lot and we’re really close and we still love each other.’
