Love Is Blind UK has exceeded all expectations ahead of tonight’s hotly-anticipated reunion which will see three broken couples come face to face for the first time since they were jilted at the aisle.
The reality series has been a long international favourite, and finally came to British shores for the first time in 2024, with a cast viewers have hailed a ‘10/10’ and ‘perfect’.
From the get-go Love Is Blind UK broke the mold.
It’s not easy taking a well-established franchise like Love Is Blind, bringing it to the UK and making it both fresh and authentically British.
Cat Spooner is the casting executive for Love Is Blind UK, after working her Midas touch on Married At First Sight UK which is also going from strength to strength year-on-year over on E4.
Since launching earlier in August, Love Is Blind UK has rarely been off the top spot of the Netflix chart and has consistently been the hottest topic on X after throwing out the rule book of reality TV with an older cast of men and women genuinely looking for love.

‘We leaned into the regionality and humour of the British people and I think that’s made Love Is Blind UK so successful,’ Cat tells Metro.co.uk.
‘So we have cast from all over the UK with different accents and British humour is like no other.
‘We were also mindful of the fact that Brits tend to get married a little later than in some other parts of the world, so we consciously aimed for a slightly older cast than the US version for instance.’
Going into the marriages, it genuinely felt like every single couple may get their fairytale ending. Every single one of them went into their ‘wedding day’ with the best intentions and really hoped to be in their respective relationships for the long-haul. The matchmaking was such a success there were five proposals we didn’t even see.

Of course, in the end it didn’t pan out that way. Out of the six couples who made it to the alter, three agreed to actually get married.
Even those who didn’t though, there was a genuine connection there for all of them. On another day, in another life perhaps they would have said ‘I do’.
Compatibility was much more important to the casting of Love Is Blind than drama. And it paid off.
‘The Pod stage and connections are entirely up to the individual cast members and who is naturally drawn to whom, we do ensure that there is enough compatibility across the 15 men and 15 women during casting so that everyone has a really good chance of finding their person,’ said Cat.
‘The key outcome of the experiment for us is that we find lasting, happy marriages – but of course we want the audience to enjoy the show. It’s important that each cast member has a balance of an engaging personality, emotional depth and the genuine want for marriage – that seems to be the sweet spot for us.

‘What I love about Love is Blind UK is that we follow the stories of the couples as they are organically – sometimes there is fall-out and sometimes there isn’t. This was also a key message from the US team, and what makes Love is Blind so special.’
Even if you haven’t watched Love Is Blind, there’s one contestant who may have still caught your attention on social media: Freddie Powell.
He’s captured the hearts of the nation. He’s so naturally kind, adores his family and even if Catherine Richards didn’t appreciate his jokes, there’s a queue of us in line who do. And his thirst traps on Instagram should be hung up in the Louvre.

Love Is Blind UK viewers have called him the ‘green flag’ they’ve been waiting to see on reality TV.
‘We were so happy to find Freddie – where has he been hiding all these years?’ teased Cat. ‘He has the purest heart and then when we found out he was a Funeral Director who wore his heart on a sleeve, he was a shoe in! We’ve been so chuffed with all the cast who made it onto the show.’
Netflix has already announced Love Is Blind season 2 is incoming, with Cat confirming they’re currently knee-deep in production already with their latest batch of singles.
Hopefully there will be season three and four too or even better Love Is Blind UK can reach as many seasons it did in the US – six so far and counting.
Think you have what it takes to be a contestant on Love Is Blind? Cat laid out the three things she’s looking for when on the hunt for potential candidates.

Authenticity and a sincere desire for love is the key (Picture: Netflix)
‘The most important thing is – do they genuinely want to get married? A Love is Blind contestant must be really ready to make that big commitment to marriage and be serious enough to want to walk down the aisle. We continually ask ourselves and them – how committed are they to the process, can they throw themselves in?
‘Authenticity – we want people to take part that are authentically themselves and are coming to the show for genuine reasons. This is often discovered in someone’s backstory or dating history – there is may be a reason they are single or have struggled to find their person and this is a driving force in them wanting to take part in this experiment.
‘Being emotionally available – the process encourages you to really dig deep, open up and be vulnerable. When people can talk about their feelings and reflect on why they’re single and what they are looking for, it can really help them build connections in the pods – and connect with the audience too.’
After 10 uplifting episodes of Love Is Blind UK, it’s become abundantly clear audiences want more positivity and real love in their reality TV. Has Love Is Blind set the precedent for the future of similar shows?
Cat explains: ‘I’ve worked across many different reality TV formats over the years, and what the audience want is always changing. However, what is always taken into consideration is contributor’s welfare, at every stage of the process.
‘Every show offers something different – and at the core, audiences are looking to go on a journey and will connect with the format if they can relate with the cast. Life and love isn’t drama the entire time, nor is it plain sailing. Love Is Blind UK has a lot of heart and its clear the audience connects with that.’
Love Is Blind: The Reunion airs tonight at 9pm on Netflix.
