We’ve all got less-than-flattering pictures from our youth, but Chappell Roan’s yearbook photo might be the best one yet.

The Good Luck Babe star has skyrocketed to fame over the past year after the release of her debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.

Chappell has even been forced to address the pitfalls of becoming a megastar and said she has experienced abuse, harassment and stalking.

However, not too long ago Chappell was a regular high school student named Kayleigh Amstutz who was unrecognisable in her hoodie and joggers.

She is well known for her iconic style, rocking drag-inspired looks and bold makeup but in her yearbook, she wasn’t quite so glamourous.

A yearbook picture shared by the 26-year-old singer has gone viral, in which the Hot To Go singer squats awkwardly for the camera.

Letting her sense of humour shine, Chappell captioned the TikTok ‘Go Tigers!’ as she poked fun at her younger self.

‘Proof my high school hated me,’ the Casual hitmaker added, laughing as audio played stating ‘burn it’.

In the picture, other students smile around her as a then-junior Chappell squats low and puts her hands out awkwardly.

Lacking the familiar big eyeshadow and lipsticks, she grins up at the camera and pulls a quirky facial expression.

Now, Chappell is more often seen dressed as the Statue of Liberty or in bright stage costumes with a full face of makeup.

Speaking about her on-stage alter ego, the musician has likened ‘Chappell Roan’ to a drag persona or similar to Hannah Montana.

The video was actually posted two years ago but has recently gained traction again as her popularity has risen and fans discovered her real name.

Fans joked with Chappell about the quirky picture, asking if she did theatre classes at all to help with her theatrical nature.

She replied: ‘I did and then I got kicked out halfway through the semester.’

Chappell grew up in Missouri, living in a trailer park with her parents and three siblings before relocating to Hollywood as her career started to take off.

Before her fame, the Kaleidoscope singer would post quirky videos to TikTok, endearing fans to her and gently promoting her music.

It was then in October last year that she began to climb the charts, securing her first UK number one earlier this month.

However, speaking about the downside of fame she shared: ‘Understand this: I embrace the success of the project, the love I feel, and the gratitude I have. What I do not accept are creepy people, being touched, and being followed.’

Chappell has asked that fans do not approach her when she is ‘clocked off work’ for pictures or signatures, sparking huge debates over celebrity privacy.
