The One Show studio has reportedly been facing a major infestation problem, with the BBC said to have called in pest control.

The weeknight programme is already at the centre of a scandal, following the news that Jermaine Jenas has been taken off air and sacked by the BBC after complaints were made and allegations he ‘sent unsolicited texts to a female staff member at The One Show’.

The 41-year-old former Match of the Day regular later apologised if he made the women he messaged feel uncomfortable and insisted nothing illegal happened with the ‘two consenting adults’.

He also denied being a ‘sex pest’, but it looks like the broadcaster has another pest problem on its hands.

According to reports, The One Show has been hit with a cockroach infestation, with its studios in central London needing insecticide.

The Sun claims that in the 18 months leading up to June 2024, pest control company Rentokil were called out 20 times to the London HQ.

It’s claimed that most of the problems were focused on The One Show, though there were areas in the celebrities’ green room effected.

A July 2023 report stated, according to the publication: ‘ONE SHOW AGAIN. Today’s visit on site was to conduct an insecticidal spray treatment for cockroach activity.

‘A treatment was conducted in the following areas: Men’s toilet, ladies’ toilets, men’s service partner toilets, women’s service partner toilet, green room corridor and makeup room.’

A log from January also reportedly said: ‘Reports of cockroach activity in the locker room [and] One Show corridor remains persistent.’

A BBC spokesperson told Metro.co.uk: ‘Like other responsible organisations, we have an effective and proactive pest control policy in place across all our sites.

‘On the rare occasion we receive a report of an unwelcome visitor in one of our buildings, we always take swift action to call in the experts who take care of the issue.’

This is yet another problem the BBC is facing, after Jenas’ sacking and various scandals in recent months.

Former BBC presenter Huw Edwards – who quit the BBC in April after 40 years on screens, including fronting coverage of Queen Elizabeth II’s death – pleaded guilty to making indecent images of children, and had been arrested five months before he quit the network.

He was previously the BBC’s highest-paid newsreader, with a pay bracket of £475,000 to £479,999 for the year 2023/24 for 160 presenting days, BBC One news specials, election specials and other television programming, according to the corporation’s latest annual report.

Meanwhile, Strictly Come Dancing has faced allegations against its pro dancers, while staff members reportedly also complained about a ‘toxic’ work environment.

Following his axing, Jenas said he ‘only [has] himself to blame’ for his actions, after some people suggested he’s the scapegoat amid the other scandals.
