Jeremy Clarkson has defended his newly-opened pub after fans blasted the ‘sick’ prices of merchandise and admitted concern over what the food would cost.

Last week, the star of The Grand Tour and Clarkson’s Farm opened his brand new pub, which reportedly cost £1,000,000.

Hundreds of people queued up for hours to be some of the first to check out The Farmer’s Dog in Oxfordshire, which the 64-year-old said faced ‘massive struggles’ ahead of its launch.

Following the opening, there’s been plenty of chatter about how much money patrons might end up spending if they head to the pub for a drink, a meal or if they fancy buying some merch.

When Jeremy shared a picture of his pub’s menu on Instagram without any of the prices, several people theorised the reason might have been because it’s expensive.

‘You know it’s expensive when they don’t include the prices 😂😂,’ Shell commented on the post, while Camilla wrote: ‘No prices. Always a worry.’

‘Looks great but the absence of prices makes me twitchy,’ said Michelle, while Rob remarked: ‘If you have to ask the price, you can’t afford it! 😂.’

On the opening day of The Farmer’s Dog, the Instagram account for the pub shared several pictures of the interior, revealing how much the merch on sale would cost.

The most expensive item on sale was a Hawkstone jumper for £60, with other items including an apron for £40, a dog bowl for £35 and a bottle opener for £14.

Commenting underneath, Andy wrote: ‘Prices are ridiculous! Hawkstone lager actually tastes like dishwater. But I love Clarkson but to pay a millionaire these prices is ridiculous.’

Marc added: ‘Really necessary to charge those prices for merch? Absolutely ripping people off because it’s on TV, it’s sick.’

How much is a pint at Jeremy Clarkson’s The Farmer’s Dog Pub?

On the day of the pub’s opening, Jeremy addressed fans who had come to witness the big event, telling them: ‘Everything you consume in there, every single thing, even the black pepper and the sugar, was grown or reared by British farmers. Everything.’

Over on X, the presenter responded after one person predicted that drinks would be pricey at the establishment, quipping: ‘I bet you’ll need to remortgage once you’ve bought a round.’

Jeremy replied simply: ‘It’s £5.50 for a pint.

According to LadBible, who listed the prices of the food offered on the menu, some of the mains range in price from £15 for a vegetable and cheddar crumble, to £19 for a Lancashire hot pot.

There are also small dishes on offer, including chicken liver pate with onion chutney for £9 and garlic mushrooms with a poached egg for £8.

In addition, desserts including apple crumble and the cheesecake of the day cost £8, while the strawberry meringue is priced at £9.
