The same or more
It sounds like we’re going to get a PS5 Pro reveal in September, judging by all the talk of a new State Of Play. If it doesn’t get announced next month then I don’t see it coming out at all this year, and that’s not what we’ve been hearing.

I don’t have a PlayStation 5 yet, so I am interested in getting a Pro but obviously the price is a big concern. The PS4 Pro was £110 more than the original, so that would be £560 if it was the same for the PS5 Pro. And, let’s face it, it will probably be an even bigger increase than that.

I just don’t know if I can justify that much money. I never would’ve imagined myself contemplating just skipping a generation, but I think those saying that it’s better to just wait for the PlayStation 6 may be right. All that money and no new games out to play on it. I don’t want this to be another PlayStation VR2 situation.

Stick or fold
Can’t argue with your Concord review. It’s not a bad game but there’s just nothing memorable about it and after playing as each character in the beta I very quickly lost interest.

The problem for Sony, and any company in this position, is that it’s hard to know whether to just discard it immediately or try and revive it with a revamp and new content. We’ve seen that happen many times in the past, but I don’t see even a flicker of interest amongst most people.

The number of people playing on Steam is rarely much over 200 and that is going to make it very difficult to get a game when you want it, which is obviously a bit of a problem for a multiplayer game.

Risky proposition
I’m not at all surprised to see people getting upset with Phil Spencer. I think it’s not a case of what he’s said but the fact that he keeps changing his story. He never acknowledges it though and it’s as if he’s just assuming we’ll forget what he said last time as soon as he replaces it with something new.

He should’ve learned to shut up years ago and nobody would’ve cared. Who are the bosses of PlayStation and Nintendo right now? I’ve no idea and since they’re not constantly putting their foot in their mouth I probably never will.

Hyping yourself up as a gamer, just like everyone else, was always a risky proposition, but combine that with the less than trustworthy reputation he’s earned himself and I certainly wouldn’t be upset if I never heard from him again.

Classic inspiration
Despite enjoying Persona 5 I hadn’t been paying any real attention to Metaphor: ReFantazio (that name is terrible, Atlus) but those screenshots in your preview are pretty incredible. The bosses look insane, especially the Hieronymus Bosch one (please correct my spelling, GC).

I’ve never seen anything like that in a video game and that’s a good thing. It suddenly makes me wish other games were more imaginative with their influences. I seem to remember one of the Mario games having levels based on Van Gogh’s artwork but that’s about it.

I’ve never understood why there’s not more classical music in games too, considering it’s royalty free and much of it is very recognisable. It gets used in movies and TV all the time, so why not games?

Friend or foe?
Reading the pushback Phil was getting from that tweet the other day I couldn’t help but wonder what his legacy will be. It’s certainly going to be more complicated than that of Don Mattrick, with loyal Xbox owners branding him a traitor while PlayStation 5 owners such as myself seeing him as a hero, saving us from Sony live service trash. I also wondered where Microsoft stands on older Xbox 360 and even OG Xbox titles coming to PlayStation 5.

Whatever happens, we’re rooting for you Phil (at least from the PlayStation 5 side of the fence!)

Human factor
Hearing about the behind the scenes upset at Bungie, when it comes to Marathon, I just don’t see the developer lasting the year. Destiny 2 has already taken a hit in terms of popularity and I don’t see anyone getting excited about Marathon. There is nothing about the graphics or the concept that looks in any way interesting or exciting, as far as I’m concerned.

I understand people hoping that Concord’s failure will mean Sony gives up on live service games but you’ve got to think of the human cost. Who knows what’s going to happen to the Concord developer and Bungie going under Is going to lead to hundreds of layoffs.

Not that that’s anyone here’s problem but I find it all very depressing. If I were Bungie and I was going to make a second live service game, I wouldn’t have made another first person shooter. I don’t see there’s anything in Marathon that couldn’t be in Destiny 2. If you just made it a new mode you wouldn’t have to worry about launching a new game and could bring some much needed visitors to Destiny 2.

Where are all the racing game live action games, or platformers or adventures or strategy games? If something’s free and good quality I’d say it had a reasonable chance of getting somewhere but all we ever get are new shooters, always going after the same players and never seeming to have much to distinguish themselves.

Companies have got to stop thinking about being the next Fortnite and need to expand their horizons a lot more than they’re doing now.

Solid options
Thanks for the Metal Gear Solid Delta preview. Very much looking forward to it, although the codec text size has me worried.

Did you notice if there were any options to make the text bigger, as it looks half the size of the original. Don’t know why so many modern games do this, Elden Ring being a recent offender.

GC: It wasn’t a problem for us but many of the options, including performance mode, weren’t available, so we couldn’t check anyway.

Power Stone denial
I can’t believe that Capcom Fighting Collection 2 is not coming to Xbox at all. Rival Schools 2 is one of my all-time favourites. So is Power Stone 2.

I already have the first Capcom Fighting Collection on my Xbox Series X and S and have other fighter collections from Capcom like Street Fighter Anniversary Collection and that one with all the roaming beat ‘em-ups on (sorry, forgot the exact name). [Capcom Beat ‘Em Up Bundle – GC]

Is it the MT Framework again? because if so that didn’t prevent any of the previous releases coming to Xbox Series X/S.

Xbox Series X/S is my platform of choice. I am heavily invested in that ecosystem, by over 800 purchases across three generations and have even preordered the 2TB special edition Xbox Series X, as I’m desperate for the storage space. (I already have a 2TB Seagate expansion card plugged in but I still don’t have enough storage space to download games like Space Marine 2 and Indy, but more specifically Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6.) My recent purchase of Mortal Kombat 1 reboot was over 140GB.

All this negativity around Xbox does concern me but I have no interest in what PlayStation 5 has to offer for various reasons. My last PlayStation purchase was a PlayStation 3 over a decade ago. And the Switch just cannot power the games I am interested in.

I also get a lot of enjoyment from my collection of games, so I’m happy with my choice of platform apart from Microsoft seemingly not being able to hold things together behind the scenes.

GC: It is MT Framework, yes. Apparnetly Microsoft is trying to improve compatibility, so maybe it’ll get a belated release on Xbox.

Croc making a return sure is a thing, but is there really the demand for it? If it wasn’t even successful at the time, why would it be now? Same goes for Epic Mickey. Seems like they’re starting to scrape the bottom of the barrel.
Loadstone

Pretty obvious that Sony has given up any idea of supporting the PlayStation VR2. If even Astro Bot won’t have it, after the amazing Robot Rescue, I don’t see them ever returning to it. What a waste of money.
