Netflix viewers have been left chilled to the bone by a new true crime docuseries about domestic violence.

Worst Ex Ever is a four-parter from acclaimed producer Jason Blum, behind films including Paranormal Activity, and is currently number one in the UK in the streamer’s chart.

Each episode is about a different American woman’s experiences of being violently abused by their male partners using testimonials, bodycam footage and animated reenactments.

Viewers have been left shocked by disturbing stories of monstrous past relationships and the police’s inaction, with @madamriaadivine exclaiming on X: ‘The worst ex ever on Netflix is insane !!!

Echoing their sentiment, @niyahonfiyyah: ‘The first episode of “worst ex ever” on Netflix is nuts.’

@thejenmath said: ‘#WorstExEver is hitting harder than Worst Roommate Ever does. The police just continually failing their citizens and consistently blaming the victim. That first episode was absolutely horrifying.’

These “Worst Ex Ever” true crime episodes that just dropped on Netflix are horrible. The second one “Betrayed by the Badge,” is so bad. That poor woman. She went thru hell & back but finally got vindicated. Thank goodness.— 🐩🇺🇸~Bitsy’s Mom~🇺🇸🐩 (@michelleismyna2) August 28, 2024

Worst Ever Ex is a spin-off of fellow true crime series Worst Roommate Ever, about the stories of four different former roommates, who all were trying to cover up their very dark pasts.

Gretchen Palek, head of alternative at the shows’ producer Blumhouse Television: ‘With the expansion to Worst Ex Ever, we have our very first franchise for Blumhouse Television, and we can’t wait to bring viewers the best of the worst for years to come.

‘In Worst Roommate Ever, we’ve created a massive format, with both seasons reaching the Netflix Top 10 in more than 65 countries around the world, and we couldn’t be more proud.’

Earlier this month, Netflix announced a raft of new documentaries at Edinburgh TV festival, including about fashion icon Victoria Beckham.

The yet untitled docuseries will follow the 50-year-old’s time in the spotlight ‘from Spice Girls superstardom in the ‘90s to modern fashion maven’

‘Her Posh Spice days may be behind her, but today Beckham is on a journey to build a fashion empire — and now, fans will be able to see the story behind it all,’ the synopsis for the programme teases.

During the panel the streaming service also announced documentaries about chef Gordon Ramsay, 90s boy band Take That, the 7/7 London bombings and sports promoters.

Worse Ever Ex is available to stream on Netflix.
