Two Gavin and Stacey stars have sent fans wild by reuniting to work on the upcoming Christmas special.
Rob Brydon – who plays Bryn – and Ruth Jones – the iconic Nessa – gave us a glimpse into production for the episode, which will be the final-ever instalment of the beloved BBC comedy.
Earlier this year, writer Ruth and the show’s co-creator, James Corden, broke the internet by confirming the original cast would be reprising their roles for one last time to give Gavin and Stacey a good send-off.
While details of the plot are currently a closely guarded secret, that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating wildly about what the special might include.
Taking to Instagram on Friday, Welsh actor and comedian Rob, 59, uploaded a selfie of him and Ruth which quickly garnered over 40,000 likes.
In a nod to Nessa’s catchphrase, he captioned the pic: ‘Something’s occurring…
#gavinandstacey’.
Both he and Ruth smiled in the cosy snap, which appears to have been taken in some sort of rehearsal room.
Naturally, his followers went into a frenzy in the comments as they shared their hopes for a satisfying conclusion.
‘Will we finally find out what happened on that fishing trip? 😂😂😂😂’, asked daztakesphotos.
Insta user crusey_b commented: ‘•Did smithy say yes •What happened on that fishing trip… 2 of the things we want to know!’
‘Oooooh! Rob you little tease! *please God, let Uncle Bryn have an air fryer*’, wrote louby_s.
Others flooded the comments with famous Gavin and Stacey references, such as Nessa’s ‘tidy’, plus mentions of Gwen’s trademark omelettes and Doris’s salad.

Rob’s post comes after the TV legend revealed he was in floods of tears reading the script for the forthcoming episode.
The actor, who warms viewers’ hearts with his portrayal of Stacey’s protective yet eccentric uncle, told Chris Evans on his Breakfast Show that he was incredibly moved after his first reading.
‘It was a couple of months before the cast saw the script. I only saw it, we were on holiday, we were away, about a month ago,’ he said.
‘I read it. Oh, it’s so good.’
‘Do you know what? I was moved to tears, because it’s emotional,’ he added.
Ahead of the official announcement, pretty much all of the Gavin and Stacey cast defiantly shut down rumours that they were returning for one final outing.

However, Rob has since shared that they were forced to keep schtum.
‘We knew it was going to happen, but we were told we had to keep it a secret. So, you have to lie to people!’ he confessed.
‘It’s a horrible feeling because you don’t want to lie to somebody right in the face.’
Speaking at the end of August, the Would I Lie To You? host said filming begins in two weeks, and he’s buzzing for everyone to be back on set like old times.
But, Rob did reveal that the episode was set to start filming in two weeks’ time and that he was looking forward for the cast to reunite.
‘I really am, because I know this will be the last time we’ll all be together.’
Gavin and Stacey first hit screens in 2007, following Mathew Horne’s Gavin Shipman and Joanna Page’s Stacey West and their relationship.
As Gavin – from Essex – and Stacey – from Barry Island – got to know one another and drama unfolded among their families, the show garnered a devout fanbase, all of whom have been itching for a reunion for years.
After three series, the show initially wrapped in 2010 before a Christmas episode aired in 2019, with 2024’s finale set to be just that, the end – tissues at the ready!
