Fans were devastated after rising British stars, English Teacher, were forced to cancel an entire leg of their tour with just 10 days’ notice.

Frequent gig cancellations have prompted anger from music lovers — which could be why English Teacher were quick to ask for ‘forgiveness’ from fans.

The group, who are up for this year’s Album of the Year Mercury Prize, scrapped all US shows with just over a week to go before their tour.

English Teacher — consisting of Lily Fontaine, Lewis Whiting, Douglas Frost, and Nicholas Eden — were due to kick off in Dallas, Texas on September 11.

Their debut album This Could Be Texas earned critical acclaim as one of the hottest bands to watch on the Indie music scene.

Posting an apology on their social media, the note read: ‘For health reasons, we have decided to cancel the headline show of our upcoming US tour.

‘There is no need for concern but we ask that you forgive us for the disappointment this may cause.’

English Teacher had been scheduled for 16 dates across the US and Canada for the next month, ending on October 8 in Los Angeles, California.

After this, the Leeds-based quartet are set to head out on a tour of Europe and the UK, wrapping in late November.

They did not give further details but assured fans they would be ‘back next year’ and signed off with ‘best wishes x’.

Fans replied sending well wishes to the group, as Tim Osmond wrote on X: ‘est wishes to you all. Hope you get back on track as soon as you can.’

‘Hope all is ok x,’ added tlou_msmsmsm while travelmeerkat said: ‘Take it easy and heal well. Health first, always.’

After forming in Leeds in 2020, the group released a series of singles and EPs which were met with praise from critics.

When speaking to Metro.co.uk, the band agreed it was ‘overwhelming and thrilling’ to have been nominated for this year’s Mercury Prize award.

They are up against stars like Cat Burns, CMAT, The Last Dinner Party, Corinne Bailey Rae, and this year’s big name to beat — Charli XCX.

Lily shared that they were ‘happy to be nominated’, adding the recognition meant a lot to the relatively new band.

English Teacher aren’t the only ones who have abruptly cancelled gigs recently, which has been causing huge annoyance among fans.

Chappell Roan came under fire as she scrapped her shows in Paris and Amsterdam days before the gigs as well as rescheduling a Berlin date.

Her decision has been hit with huge controversy as European fans vent she is ‘prioritising’ the VMAs, where she will reportedly perform, over her global fans.

Others have defended this career move, stating she needs to take these opportunities when they are offered to her in order to keep growing as an artist.

This has been more positively received than the cancellation of Catfish and the Bottlemen’s latest show — a mere 15 minutes before it was due to start.

Fans slammed them as ‘an absolute joke’ despite the group citing ‘artist illness’ as the reason for the sudden u-turn.
