ITV’s newest gameshow hasn’t exactly received a warm reception from viewers.
Hosted by Stephen Mangan, Password is the latest addition to the network’s Saturday night schedule.
The aim of the game is straightforward – celebrities must help members of the public guess a password in a bid for them to win £10,000.
Daisy May Cooper and Alan Carr were on board as team captains for the first episode, which aired last night to a divided audience.
Taking to X during the show to vent their frustrations, viewers pointed out a major flaw in the show’s format.
Unfortunately for eager participants at home, they were prevented from playing along when the password was actually announced by a voiceover as the round began.

Host Stephen explained the rules: ‘The game is simple. Get your partner to guess the password before your opponent does.
‘You can only give one-word clues. No made-up words, no hand gestures, no miming, no running, no ducking, no bombing.
‘If your partner gets the password on the first clue it’s worth 6 points, then 5 points for the second clue and so on.
‘First team to 25 wins the round, win two rounds and you’ll go through to the final where you’ll be playing for our £10,000 jackpot.’
Writing on X, user originalfran blasted: ‘Why ask if we can guess the #Password when some guy announces it at the beginning of each round, then you show it on screen??? What’s the point in this show if we can’t play along at home?’
Queenie_2312 agreed: ‘When we filmed the #Password pilot, the password was only shown to the audience and not said out loud, they should of kept that format as you can’t play along as an audience member at home when the password is being said out loud’.

Others were simply not fans of the show full stop, even branding it childish.
‘I love a good quiz BUT Password is the worst thing I have seen on TV for years’, wrote Tezla1, as Twig9876 also described it as ‘dreadful’.
ColinBland78 called it ‘juvenile beyond belief’, while braambles asked: ‘Why is it on prime time on a Saturday?’
‘It isn’t even a quiz show since we get the answers at the start’, noted BrianMcL6.
The reactions weren’t all bad, though, as a handful of viewers did warm to the concept.
ThisIsMeUK1 said during the launch: ‘Been looking forward to this sooooo much!!!’

Ultimately, the first episode ended in victory for Adisa, who triumphed over fellow contestant Jo to take home the five-figure sum.
Speaking ahead of the launch, host Stephen expressed his excitement to helm a new weekend entertainment show.
‘Password is a fantastic game show, so it’s an absolute pleasure to be the host,’ he said.
Joking about his co-stars, he added: ‘Although how I’m going to keep Daisy and Alan in line, I don’t know!’
Comedian Alan chimed in with some fighting talk: ‘I can’t wait to wipe the floor with Daisy; she’ll be heading back to the West Country with her tail between her legs. If only her brain was as big as her mouth.’
This Country actress Daisy said: ‘I’m looking forward to knocking the glasses off Alan with my exceptional talent for this game.’

Katie Rawcliffe, Head of Entertainment Commissioning at ITV, also promised that Password would be a ‘brilliantly fun format greatly complemented by a fabulous on-screen trio in Alan, Daisy and Stephen.’
She teased: ‘2023 has been a great year for game shows on ITV, and there are plenty more to come in 2024.’
Password joins the likes of The Voice in the Saturday night schedule, as the singing competition is back for another series.
It also follows in the footsteps of the hugely successful The 1% Club, which is presented by Lee Mack and was recently renewed for a fourth and fifth series.
Password airs Saturday nights on ITV1 and ITVX.
