James Corden has given fans a glimpse behind the scenes of the last ever Gavin and Stacey episode, which will air as a Christmas special.

Earlier this year Ruth Jones and James announced stars of the beloved BBC comedy will be reprising their roles for one last time to give Gavin and Stacey a big old send-off.

Now, the Carpool Karaoke star, 46, has shared with fans a picture showing the side of Smithy’s work van with the advert sign reading: ‘Smithy’s: if your husband won’t do it – I will… Tilin, roofin, plasterin, & feng shui. Call me on 07700978978.’

Alongside the picture of the iconic vehicle, James wrote: ‘Day 1. Here we go x.’

So it appears filming has commenced – and we’ve never been so excited for Christmas as early as September.

Details of the final Welsh hurrah are unclear, but that hasn’t stopped fans speculating about what it might include in the comments section of James’ update.

‘Screw the fishing trip, screw the wedding, let’s just have the best Christmas special for the ages!! Forget Oasis, THIS IS HISTORY,’ said Instagram user vinylbooks98.

‘I am SO EXCITED! If he doesn’t marry nessa im going to kick off!’ said daniellebarringtonx. while dxnjt wrote: ‘The only thing I’m excited for at Christmas!!! @j_corden will we finally find out about that bloody fishing trip?’

Smithy’s work van is a staple image of the show, and most famously saw Smithy and Gavin – played by Matthew Horne – singing the Band Air Christmas song as they trundled along in it.

This comes after Rob Brydon – who plays Bryn – and Ruth, who of course portrays the brilliant Nessa, gave a small glimpse into production for the episode last week.

Taking to Instagram on Friday, Welsh actor and comedian Rob, 59, uploaded a selfie of him and Ruth which quickly garnered over 40,000 likes.

In a nod to Nessa’s catchphrase, he captioned the pic: ‘Something’s occurring…
#gavinandstacey’.

As well as the return of Nessa, Smithy, Gavin and Stacey with their original actors,

there has been some speculation that Sheridan Smith could be reprising her role as Smithy’s sister Rudi.

Elsewhere, Alison Steadman and Larry Lamb confirmed their return as Pam and Mick, and Uncle Bryn actor Rob Brydon told Metro.co.uk that he’s hoping for ‘some of the juicy things to do’.

Gavin and Stacey first hit screens in 2007, following Horne’s Gavin Shipman and Joanna Page’s Stacey West and their relationship, with all the drama that unfolds when they get to know each other.

After three series, the show initially wrapped in 2010 before a Christmas episode aired in 2019, with the grand finale set for the 2024 festive period.
