Daniel Craig has been spotted out in Venice for a meal with wife Rachel Weisz ahead of the premiere of his Oscar-hopeful new film, Queer.

The 56-year-old was also rocking his new shaggy hairstyle, which he’s grown past his ears to his collar, wearing it casually swept back.

It’s understood to be for his reprisal of the role of detective Benoit Blanc in Netflix’s Knives Out 3, titled Dead Man Wake Up, after a first-look picture of him in character dropped in June showing the sleuth in a three-piece suit.

Alongside The Mummy actress Rachel, 54, he dined outside a local restaurant, enjoying the local cuisine by the city’s Grand Canal.

In fact, the former James Bond star appeared to be such a fan of his food that he was photographed carefully feeding a bite to his wife in a sweet gesture.

The couple, who are seldom photographed together, were both dressed casually and using sunglasses to help disguise their identities as Rachel picked a pair of vintage-inspired white-framed glasses.

After jetting into Marco Polo airport together on Sunday, Daniel and Rachel were also seen on their hotel balcony separately, taking in the gorgeous view.

Daniel has also made quite the debut with his new hair after starring in a new Loewe campaign – the posters for which adorn the airport’s walls as you head to catch boat transportation – which saw him don a multi-coloured knitted jumper and yellow-tinted glasses, as well as a pair of extremely jazzily patterned trousers.

His new film is all the talk at Venice, given the high expectations from Challengers director Luca Guadagnino to deliver another high-class film in the vein of his major international breakthrough, Call Me By Your Name, in 2017.

In Queer, the actor is said to take part in intimate scenes that include him performing oral sex on his co-star, Love, Simon actor Drew Starkey, 30.

However, Drew has lavished Daniel with praise for how he handled filming their sex scenes together, admitting he would have ‘imploded’ if Daniel hadn’t ‘kept it moving’ and noting how ‘goofy’ and ‘beautiful’ he is as a person.

He told Variety: ‘I think everyone’s starstruck when Daniel walks into the room. But then of course, within five minutes that sheds away and you’re like, “Oh, right. He’s an incredibly kind, goofy, beautiful person and very giving actor and a good friend. He’s all of it.”’

On filming the racy scenes, he continued: ‘It was about the work and we just got into it really quickly. He never took anything too seriously. Of course, I was approaching it like, “Oh my god, this is crazy.” But Daniel always kept it light, and I would have imploded on that set if Daniel wasn’t there just to keep it moving. He’s the best.’

Drew also insists the chemistry between them didn’t feel ‘forced’ as ‘movement rehearsals and choreography’ helped them.

Guadagnino also ensured they were ‘as comfortable as possible throughout that process’, with Drew and Daniel discussing the intimate scenes ‘months in advance [and] about what we thought it should be’.

Queer premieres on September 3 at Venice Film Festival. A UK release date has yet to be announced.
