Pharrell Williams now has his own Lego movie (Lego)

Pharrell Williams’ animated biopic Piece by Piece is out in cinemas soon and it already has its own Lego tie-in set.

The original Lego Movie, which helped shoot Chris Pratt to superstardom, celebrated its 10th anniversary this year but while there’s been no sign of another entry in the series there is a new Lego film coming out soon… only it’s something quite a bit different.

Piece by Piece is a biopic that follows the life and career of artist and designer Pharrell Williams, expect it’s animated with Lego and features a whole range of other famous stars, including Gwen Stefani, Jay-Z, and Snoop Dogg.

Of course, it wouldn’t make sense to have a new Lego movie without a tie-in to go along with it and the one for Piece by Piece is just as unique as the film itself.

The set is called Over the Moon with Pharrell Williams and features a black space shuttle with a special gold canopy and colourful exhaust stream.

In terms of design, the shuttle is very unusual, as it’s supported by the exhaust and clouds at the bottom, as it sits at an angle that you wouldn’t normally think was possible for Lego.

Another important element of the set is that it comes with 51 different minifigure heads that increase the range of skin tones to a new total of seven. Over 30 of the heads are unique to the set and can be used on any minifigure, or used to create the abacus design you see here.

‘Growing up, I was obsessed with space and the infinite possibilities it represents,’ says Pharrell. ‘This partnership aims to inspire creativity and inclusivity. With my Lego Over the Moon set I want everyone to feel seen and empowered to imagine their own stories. The spaceship is blasting off, and you’re in the pilot seat.’

As well as the movie and its tie-in, Pharrell’s non-profit children’s foundation YELLOW will start a new Build the Change challenge in conjunction with Lego this autumn, aimed at helping kids around the world.

The Over the Moon set is made up of 966 Lego pieces and is 49cm high and 20cm long. It’ll be available starting from September 20, although you can pre-order it now from Lego stores and the Lego website for £94.99.

Piece by Piece launches in the UK on November 8.
