Sir Elton John has offered some surprising words of praise for Donald Trump after the ex-president used one of his song lyrics.
The Tiny Dancer hitmaker made his first public appearance at the premiere of a documentary about his life after confessing an eye infection had damaged his sight.
During the premiere, which he attended with husband David Furnish, Sir Elton reportedly discussed the Republican presidential nominee.
Trump, who was recently re-indicted over felony charges linked to trying to subvert the 2020 election, is apparently an Elton John fan.
He’s such a big fan of the 77-year-old icon that he’s taken to calling Kim Jong-Un the nickname ‘little rocket man’.
While at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, Sir Elton was asked by Variety – who noted the rocker was ‘not a fan of Donald Trump’ – what he thought of the Republican using his lyric.
Sir Elton responded: ‘I laughed, I thought that was brilliant. I just thought, “Good on you, Donald”.’

He continued: ‘Donald’s always been a fan of mine, and he’s been to my concerts many, many times. So, I mean, I’ve always been friendly toward him, and I thank him for his support.
‘When he did that, I just thought it was hilarious. It made me laugh.’
However, Sir Elton was careful to note this was not an indication that he endorsed Trump in his campaign against Vice-President Kamala Harris.
‘I don’t go on stage and say to people; “You must vote for the Republicans, you must vote for the Democrats,”’ the Benny and the Jets hitmaker clarified. ‘It’s none of my business how they vote.

In the 90s, Sir Elton moved to Atlanta with his husband, living in his Buckhead home until last year when he relocated to the UK.
After his praise of Trump, the superstar added a caveat, explaining ‘there is a danger’ in the US at the moment as the country is ‘very volatile’.
Sir Elton shared: ‘As Dick Cheney said the other day. America is in a very volatile position. And it’s a country I love, and I’ve always loved, and I’m so thankful that it made me who I am.
‘I just want people to vote for things that are just, things that are important to people: the right to choose, the right to be who you are, and not let anybody else tell you who to be. And that goes all the way up to the Supreme Court.’
He added, ‘I just hope that people make the right decision to see what the future is going to be. Is it going to be fire and brimstone … or are we going to have a much calmer, a much safer place?

‘People can vote for who they like, but as far as I’m concerned, I love love. And I’m a loving person, and I want that to come back to America. I feel it’s been lost in the last 12 years.’
Sir Elton has retired from touring, saying farewell in Sweden after a huge Glastonbury set in 2023.
Last week, the Your Song legend revealed he was partially blind in one eye after struggling with an infection.
‘I am healing but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye,’ Sir Elton shared.
