It could be the final goodbye.

It could finally be splitsville for reunited couple Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Aidan Shaw (John Corbett) on And Just Like That.

At the end of season 2 of the Sex and the City spin-off, Carrie and Aidan appeared to agree to a five-year hiatus so he could focus on raising his teenage sons.

It might not be the wisest choice to continue their relationship as we all know it’s a recipe for disaster when famous TV couples decide to go on a break (looking at you Ross and Rachel in Friends).

Judging by new pictures from the set of And Just Like That, which is currently filming in New York, Carrie and Aidan’s long-term prospects look non-existent as they were seen having a tearful conversation at a cafe.

The iconic 00s TV couple looked very much like they’d decided to respectfully part ways for good as they were pictured having an emotional exchange and later sharing a hug that looked like a final goodbye.

Carrie had an on-and-off relationship with Aidan in seasons three and four of the original series, breaking up twice because the New Yorker cheated on him and later couldn’t commit after they got engaged.

The furniture maker also made an appearance in the film Sex and the City 2, set in Abu Dhabi, where viewers learned he was married and had three kids – which didn’t stop him from sharing a kiss with Carrie.

Aidan was not the only fan-favourite character to return to And Just Like That which follows Carrie, Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) as they navigate their 50s.

While OG cast member Kim Cattrall, who plays Samantha, initially refused to join the revival, she did have a small cameo role in season 2 – speaking on the phone to Carrie.

Samantha is travelling in a taxi in her new hometown London while she has a one-minute 10-second conversation with her former friend and informs her she can’t attend Carrie’s final dinner party in her apartment.

However, unlike Aidan’s return, which was well-received by viewers, fans expressed their ‘disappointment’ over Samantha’s brief appearance.

‘Damn the Samantha cameo on #AndJustLikeThat really was disappointing…….. glad to see her on the show tho all this time waiting tho had hoped for much more @KimCattrall @AndJustLikeThat knew she wouldn’t join but was hoping she’d do at least a few cameos in season 3,’ @RealLuisRivera wrote on X.

@Alibenzkr scathed: ‘The Samantha cameo probably most underdeveloped scene in the history of #AndJustLikeThat and that says a lot

Kim previously made the decision to turn down returning to Samantha after the second Sex and the City movie due to not wanting to tarnish her experience on the show.

‘It’s a great wisdom to know when enough is enough,’ she told Variety. ‘I also didn’t want to compromise what the show was to me. The way forward seemed clear.’

And Just Like That is available to stream on Now in the UK and HBO in the US.
