A Strictly Come Dancing 2024 contestant was just seconds away from spilling a huge spoiler on BBC Breakfast.

Olympian Sam Quek, 35, is one of the 15 celebrities on the line-up for this year’s ballroom show, which is launching in just a matter of days.

All of the stars have been sworn to secrecy over the identities of their professional partners but Sam almost let it slip this morning.

On BBC Breakfast, the hockey player confirmed she had been paired with a partner, prompting presenter Naga Munchetty to ask: ‘Is your partner watching?’

‘I hope so,’ Sam replied, before putting her hand over her mouth in shock.

Presenter Charlie Stayt warned Sam to be ‘very careful’, while Naga admitted it would have been ‘very funny’ if she had spilled the beans.

However, the secrecy hasn’t stopped Strictly sleuths putting their detective skills to good use by trying to work out the pairings.

They believe Strictly’s first-ever blind contestant, comedian Chris McCausland, 47, has been partnered with Australian redhead Dianne Buswell, 35.

Reddit user Fine_Promise_1852 uploaded a screenshot to the site after opening their YouTube app and being shown Chris’s Strictly VT and one of Dianne’s own vlogs directly underneath.

‘Look what coincidentally came up next to each other on my YouTube feed…. Definitely a stretch and just a weird coincidence but maybe a sign who knows 😜🤘’, they wrote.

A source previously claimed Love Islander Tasha Ghouri and Strictly veteran Aljaz Skorjanec, who returns after a three-year absence, have been paired to bring back the ‘feel-good factor.’

Meanwhile, DIY SOS host Nick Knowles and Nadiya Bychkova were spotted at the same shopping centre in London fuelling speculation they will be taking to the ballroom floor together.

However, viewers don’t have long to wait until all is revealed on Saturday night when the first Strictly live show airs.

This year, along with Sam, Chris and Nick the likes of Towie’s Pete Wicks, Go Compare singer Wynne Evans and JLS singer JB Gill are competing for the glitterball trophy.

Completing the line-up are Gladiators athlete Montell Douglas, Olympic swimmer Tom Dean, EastEnders actor Jamie Borthwick, The X Factor winner Shayne Ward, and Miranda actress Sarah Hadland.

Before becoming a presenter on The Morning Live, Sam won 125 international caps for the England and Great Britain women’s hockey teams, and secured a gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

In the 2017 New Year Honours, she was made an MBE for services to hockey, and after retiring has featured regularly on the BBC’s coverage of sports.

Sam also co-hosted the BBC’s Tokyo Olympic Games breakfast programme and the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool, is a Question Of Sport team captain, and has been on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

Strictly Come Dancing 2024 begins on Saturday, September 14 at 7:20pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
